Should I upgrade to a i5 9600k or a r5 3600x

What I do is gaming in 1080p and with one or two Firefox tabs open mainly YouTube playing music while gaming.

Can a 6 core 6 thread handle that? Or just save some money and get a 6c/12t CPU?

Here's the rest of the build

GTX 1080 8gb

16Gb DDR4 2400 2×8GB

128gb SSD  Bootdrive

2tb HDD Storage

Power spec 650w 80 plus Gold PSU

I'm upgrading from a i3 7100 and a GTX 1050 Ti

Sorry but buying the 9600k isn't worth it. You get the "hyper threading" experience through AMD for $40 cheaper. (R5 3600)

I believe you I'm just going to buy the risen 5 processor. There's a microcenter and it is way cheaper than a i5.

100% the R5 3600. The 3600 is pretty much on Par with the i7-8700k. Plus the 3600 is cheaper than the 9600k... Buying Intel isn't worth it right now especially with the performance and pricing of Ryzen 3000.

Main Desktop: CPU - i9-14900k | Mobo - Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 | GPU - ASUS TUF Gaming OC RTX 4090 RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 64GB 3600mhz | AIO - H150i Pro XT | PSU - Corsair RM1000X | Case - Phanteks P500A Digital - White | Storage - Samsung 970 Pro M.2 NVME SSD 512GB / Sabrent Rocket 1TB Nvme / Samsung 860 Evo Pro 500GB / Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2tb Nvme / Samsung 870 QVO 4TB  |

TV Streaming PC: Intel Nuc CPU - i7 8th Gen | RAM - 16GB DDR4 2666mhz | Storage - 256GB WD Black M.2 NVME SSD |

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 - Phantom Black 512GB |

If you're getting a Ryzen CPU, your ram speed is a bit lacking. Have you ever tried overclocking it?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Get either a 2600 or 3600 Ryzen depending of pricing, they almost give the 2600 these days. Get faster RAM then 2400mhz, get something around 3200mhz CL16 or CL15, it will improve the performance a fair amount.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

Ryzen 3600 is a much better value and a superior CPU.

Either choice would be good but the 3600 would be better at multitasking typically i would recommend a R7 if you are already spending 250$ on a CPU if not the 3600 for 199$ is the clear winner.
