Literally every game has V-Sync built into it, and it's on by default. For most of them, you can turn it off. If you turn it off, just enable Fast Sync in the Nvidia control panel.

I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm liking what I see with the MSI GS75, except, it seems to lack G-Sync in the built-in screen. Having seen Nvidia's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT8f_1oRsLU) about screen tearing, frame stutters, V-Sync, and how G-Sync magically fixes it all, and how I've never had a laptop powerful enough to output even 30 FPS in most games, I'm concerned that this lack of G-Sync will result in perceptible/noticeable issues in the video quality of games like PUBG.

I travel for a living so carrying around an external (G-Sync compatible) screen is not an option.

Is this really something I need to be concerned about?

I never use Freesync/Gsync in any of my games, it has never bothered me. Both solutions add some input latency and thats yucky.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Less than V-Sync, which still only adds what an imperceptibly low amount for most people.

@madmoneymike5 G-Sync is good if you can't hit your max refresh rate. That laptop is super powerful and should have no issue hitting 144fps, so just use Fast Sync and you'll be fine.

Senka, one of the major features espoused by Linus in an early video about this technology was the lack of lag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fghQh0Y4oA4&t=2m57s

Linus rarely acknowledges that his perceptions don't necessarily represent everyone. His videos often suffer from heavy confirmation bias, and aren't particularly accurate. He goes after entertainment value more than scientific accuracy. While there's nothing wrong with that, you shouldn't consider his videos super reliable.

Ok, well, I appreciate the responses. Still, I feel no closer to forming a strong enough opinion to purchase or look to a different device. G-Sync = reduced battery time and apparently some amount of input lag; whether that lag is noticeable I suspect will be different for each person. Lack of G-Sync = better battery life, but the potential for screen tearing. This laptop has a 144Hz display, though, so unless it gets above that for FPS, I shouldn't notice screen tearing, right?

You need to quote or tag people for them to get a notification about your reply. If I wasn't leaving this tab open I wouldn't have seen these.

And that's correct, but if you use either V-Sync or Fast Sync then you won't get any tearing either. I recommend Fast Sync, since it works even if you drop below 144fps. I have a G-Sync monitor and I can't tell the difference.

How can I use V-Sync or Fast Sync with the built-in monitor? (I'm just learning about this whole syncing issue, so sorry if the answer to this question is very simple and seems like maybe I should already know it.)
