Alriiiiiiiight, the Planet Smasher has been set up and my name should appear. It's a good thing I'm working extra here in August/September, because my power bills are going to be rather high by the end of this. I feel sorry for anybody with multiple AMD GPUs!

Spoke too soon, we're running into problems. Doesn't seem to be GPU related, but I'm getting bluescreens pretty frequently, usually KMODE Exception Not Handled and an IRQL Not Less or Equal before that. Just while I was typing this message wdfilter.sys failed according to the latest crash. Is this just Real Time Protection getting in the way of things?

You should try DDU and doing a fresh install of your GPU drivers, grab some that are around 2-3 months old.

Oh I read the error code wrong, always got this when my mem OC wasn't exactly stable.

Haha, totally fair, I'm about to go into work all night myself. Anyway, I'm getting all kinds of random RAM/Driver-related BSODs so I'm going to kill the overclock for now and let this baby cruise. I kinda wish there was a one-click to get everything back to stock without clearing CMOS...unless I'm mistaken and doing that will keep my profiles in place.

Okay, had to clear CMOS anyway, looks like there's a few more problems I'll have to address later. But my profiles are still there, so we're all good. Clock speed isn't going to matter for this stuff anyway, if I remember correctly.

You can get some decent PPD increases with a decent OC tbh... At least on GPUs

Should've specified, CPU overclock was most of what I'm doing. These Strix 1080Tis come overclocked from factory, and in my experimentation there isn't much more to force out of them...but that's not going to stop me from trying in the next few days! I'll log my results here.

That's a familiar story I've heard with these things and even Titan Xp as well. It might just be an upper limit of Pascal.

 

Good news is we're stable with no OC running, so I still have a lot of playing with to do on that. As such, I'll have contributed 58,900 points in the next 4 hours or so.

2100 on a 1080? That's pretty good, mine won't break 2000. I just lowered the tdp of both my green cards so my room isn't as much of a furnace. When October rolls around, everything's going up to max tdp and clock speeds.

Sounds like silicon lottery at that point. I need to ask my other 1080-equipped buddies to see if they can crank that high.

NGL, one time iirc I managed to get a 1060 to about 2000. Not sure if that is the particular card I am using or not

That seems normal. I run my 1080ti at 2025MHz. 2037.5Mhz (the next step up) seems to be stable, but if it jumps to 2050MHz then there's the chance that it crashes and I lose the WU.
Though I often power limit it to 70% and it runs at around 1850-1900MHz. Let's me keep the fans at 50%, temps low, and power usage down.

That seems low. What program are you using to view the clock speeds, what are you using to overclock the card, and what are temperatures like?
I've found it can also vary depending on the work unit.
