How can I host a minecraft server and keep myself safe?

I am a twitch streamer and have a small community that I'd like to host a minecraft server for. I just don't want my IP address or any compromising information about me to be revealed, as I don't want to be dox'd or swatted, etc. I know you can pay for server hosting but I'm not gonna do that. What is the simplest way to host a safe minecraft server?

Just host the server through a VPN?

are there any decent free ones? I heard opera has one, which I use, but I figured that probably just covered your browser activity.

To be honest, I'm not totally sure. I personally don't use a VPN. I got Windscribe in a humble bundle a while ago and had it for like a year but I think it's expired. It was pretty good.

Something in browser like that will just cover your browser activity.

Don't trust a VPN for starters - here's a good reason why: https://gist.github.com/ohhdemgirls/734321ae735e488db198298cb7e421af
Just buy an MC server or a VPS. There's a reason why those exist.

You can try MCProHosting or rent a VPS and set one up yourself. Only use a VPS if you know exactly what you're doing though - not many people do.

Don't host it locally. If you're a Twitch streamer, like you say you are, you can probably find a hosting company willing to host for you. Just make sure they're trusted and not using you as a means of getting more people on board for scams. I've seen that happen so many times.

TL;DR Don't host it locally.
