Possible time travel

I was wondering if it is possible to time travel at a consumer grade level, what i mean by that is are there any publicly available plane flights that you land before you take off in terms of time zones ???

Yes, just board a plane that takes you to the time zone that is 1h behind yours in less than 1h.

 

That's hardly time travel though.

take a car/bus/train ride and you'll get to experience time travel at a rate of 1 hour/hour 9_9

If you cross the international date line, you can either travel forwards of backwards 24hrs.  :)

 

So you could enjoy your birthday twice or skip it entirely.

The rate at which time progresses can be relative to gravitational forces. You could go into orbit and spend more time living than someone on the ground. Satellites actually have to occasionally adjust their clocks to compensate for this difference. Or you could spend eternity close to a black hole :P

i was about to mention some relatvitiy concepts surrounding time dilation and being in orbit lul

As some have already mentioned, taking a flight can result in a minuscule time difference (if I remember correctly a test with extremely precise clocks was carried out and a time difference of 3 ms was found after a long flight).

Technically, we are all travelling through time, but in a fixed direction at a fixed (at least very, very close to fixed) speed.

For those who want to have some fun with time zones, just take a flight to the North Pole and circle around it trying to keep up with the time zone borders you are crossing ;)

if you want to drag physics into this, you age slower at a super minuscule level as you travel faster than others slower than you. you do not travel forwards or backwards in time ._.

Time is relative. Everyone travels forward in time. If you are in light speed, just happens your time travels a lot slower.

No it is not even close to 3ms. I asked this question awhile back on stack overflow and there is some great responses.

Basically there are a lot more factors than just traveling fast. But theoretically due to the altitude and assuming they flew opposite to the earths rotation they could appear to be a minute or so younger after a career. But the radiation most likely has more of a negative effect than the speed ever would

You are right, I didn't remember it correctly. For those who are interested, the experiment I was refering to is described here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafele–Keating_experiment . The largest observed difference there was about a quarter of a microsecond.

Enzo Ferrari and Mesust Ozil. There was a photo of both of them. One was born on the date when the other died. They look identical. I associate it with time travel.
