Upgrade 2700x to 3700x or 3900x

Hey guys, hope you guys can help me a bit.

I'm wondering if i should upgrade my cpu nor not.

I'm running a 2700x at 4.2ghz on a Crosshair VI hero, with 32gb lpx 3000mhz ram and a RTX 2080ti.

I'm playing at 2560x1440p 144hz.

But is it worth to upgrade my cpu to either a 3700x or 3900x?

Are you not satisfied with your performance? If not, specifically in what games? If yes, why do you want to upgrade after a single generation?

At 1440p you might see some improvement.  Go for the 3900X though.

Even if your doing you lots of rendering and use apps with huge projects or 3D studio max or Maya or AutoCAD or a DAW the 2700x will be fine.  As for gaming it will totally be fine and no bottleneck.  Basically your bottleneck is your video card now and in future.  The CPU is not going to magically make your game a super game ya know.

If you're happy with the performance, it doesn't make sense to upgrade.

I dont think so, 3700X gives you about 15% more performance. Not worth the price hit you would take by selling and upgrading IMO.

Then no, if you're happy with your current performance an upgrade is by definition wasted money, especially after so little time. A 3700x is only about 15% faster than a 2700x anyway and a 3900x is barely any faster in games.

When it gets too slow I'll get whatever is new and a new motherboard.

If you are happy with what you have and it does everything you need or want it to do now then I would say no. Even if it came close to doing what you want I would still say no.

 

Look at it this way. Do you want to spend 4 or 5 hundred dollars to basically be a beta tester? The cpu's are new, the motherboards are new, and the bios updates for the older motherboards are new. Make no mistake, some people are having problems with them. For some it works fine, others are not so lucky. There seem to be some strange glitches and growing pains. Not to mention the time you will spend tearing your computer apart to swap the cpu. Then pray nothing goes wrong while doing it. If you keep your old motherboard you will most likely have to flash the bios with a new one. That in itself is a risk sometimes. And some of the new bios for the 3000 series aren't exatly the greatest thing since sliced bread. And you may have to deal with reactivating windows because you changed the cpu.

 

If all this sounds worth it to you so maybe shave a few seconds off your workload, or to score some pretty benchmark numbers then sure go for it. At the very least it will keep you entertained for a few days.

 

Would it be a good investment of your time and money? In my opinion, no it wouldn't.
