Is a VA panel good for gaming

If you are not a actual pro, then yes its fine for gaming.

I use both and they about 30" away from each other. If I am on the VA I am not thinking "Gee I wish I was playing on the IPS monitor".

The HDR on the IPS is a bigger deal and I will not buy another monitor that does not have HDR.

Yes and no.

it depends on what specific VA panel monitor you get. Some a trash for gaming, other pretty good.

IMO out of the 3 LCD panel types VA is best. it has far better color and contrast vs TN, it doesn't 'glow' like IPS, and has the best black levels. Its also the only panel type used so far with a form of QD technology which produces the best image of any LCD.

That said, as with ALL LCD technologies, it has its major downsides.

Pixel response is the slowest, so you have to really search hard for those VA panel monitors that have pushed pixel response as fast as it can, otherwise your going to get significant ghositng/bluring. In this regard dont trust response time specs from the manufactures, they are always misleading and incorrect, make sure to find competent and thorough reviewers like rtings.com to find out the 'real' pixel response times.

It also has terrible viewing angles, so you need to make sure your viewing it head on or else you'll get color,contrast, and brightness shift when viewing even slightly of angle.

Finally, all LCD types in regards to monitors have bad uniformity, some monitor models have better uniformity than others, but it is very much down to the manufacturer to decide how much QA they put into that particular aspect. You wont alas, find any monitor with a 'good' uniformity, that im afraid is reserved for high end 55"+ TV panels only. ( The best score out of 10 for monitor uniformity ull find is around 7, most only hit around 5)
