Overkill Hardware Choices

I'm using an RTX 2060 to play Oldschool Runescape. A $350 GPU for a game that can be ran fine on a $350 laptop.

 

Anyone else using overkill components for minimal requirement games?

 

If wrong section feel free to move to off-topic.

Got a z series mobo for non-k 65w cpu, just to have <60'c vrm temps and thus adding to  minimum airflow needed, just to have quieter system... Also have rog strix 2060, same reason, massive overkill vrm and heatsink. All casefans replaced with noctuas..

 

Shaving off just a few decibels can easily cost a couple of hunderd extra, but i think its worth it; but a $15 headset would accomplish te same (but i cant stand headsets).

 

Can play bf5 for hours without every hearing ramping fans going wooooosh :)

 

edit: older games i still play, bf3, cod ww2 (older one), silent hunter III (2005...)

After a month of having my PC I was kind of tired of some of the games I had, which meant I spent the next month only playing Insaniquarium deluxe (on a Ryzen 7, RX 580 system). That is - much like Runescape - an old game that can be ran on a toaster.

I bought my first SSD because my HDD was still vibrating too loud even inside a cooling/"silencing" box. Though I do have to confess the speed was a great bonus.

Why would we let our ears sweat in a stupid closed headset to block PC noise when we can just have - no noise? I do use headphones, but the open back sound is worth it.

 

More on topic - I genuinely think I upgraded my GPU just because my CPU seemed a bit overkill when paired with a "measly" HD7950. It made perfect sense at the time but I didn't use the GPUs full potential until I got a Vive. Now I feel bad because I play simple indie games and browser games that barely use the GPU, but when I boot up SteamVR I keep yearning for more power.

I’m currently playing RCT3 on my RX580/i5 8600 system.

 

EDIT: I do have it running in full HD with all eye candy on.

 

Who needs Planet Coaster?
