What's faster 1070 (laptop) or 2060 (laptop)?

Had a look here but not sure if it's reliable?

 

I have 1070 laptop with 8750H.

The 1070 should edge out the 2060 at the cost of no Ray Tracing or new Techie.  For the most part they will perform similar.

Aye Thanks. I'm deciding whether I want to trade the laptop for a slightly different config:

 

6 core CPU 8750H + 1070 (I have it currently)

 

VS

 

4 core CPU 7820HK (I think?) + 1080. 

 

1080 one costs £100 more.

 

2 years warranty on them all. I do play a lot of VR etc.

 

Or perhaps I should use that £100 to upgrade my Pimax 4K to the new Oculus Rift S.

1070 can ray trace, Nvidia released a driver update that allows RTX on Pascal cards not too long ago.

Like I want something that was at least once top tier (but doesn't necessarily have to be now)

Or like a normal average laptop but newest. 

 

So I was hoping this 1070 laptop would be nice for me. 

 

1080 for sure was once at the top, and it's still pretty darn good. 

 

Just not too sure about the quad core CPU in it.

honestly the fact that you have an overclockable cpu and a 1080 in this config means it will get hot, like quite hot, 

unless your system can handle it, i suggest you stick with your current config, or else you will run in throttling issues, 

also you have to take into consideration any power limitations your laptop has, 

like my laptop in my signature, doesnt thermal throttle because of the bulk cooling, but performance is limited by power, i mean my power supply can provide it, its just locked by my bios, so just be aware

That's kind of like saying that a 1970 VW Beetle can race at Leguna Seca. Sure. It can. In the sense that it could go around the track. Much like the 1070 can technically trace rays in real time. However it can't do it in a satisfactory manner.

 

I asked my friend with a 1080 and 4970K to try that new Quake2 ray trace demo. He got about 5fps with ray tracing turned on and many many more than 5fps with it turned back off. It's a marketing gimmick.

i mean i wasnt expecting much, its running specialty calculations on a gpu that wasnt designed for that, but i think @Crunchy Dragon meant it has it if op wants to try it out, but its really not that big of a deal, 

honestly ray tracing is nice, but i really dont think its anything too special,  as of right now

I can ray trace, just not on the go. 

 

I tried the Quake II at 5k with raytracing and it was running at like 30 FPS with 2080 Ti SLI.

 

Ye I'm just wondering if the CPU trade off (4 cores instead of 6) is better as I'd get GPU upgrade to 1080 for just £100.

 

RAM also gets doubled from 16 to 32GB.

So i was looking it and the new laptop should come with a 330 watt power supply, compared to your current 230w, so they definitely expect you to use that power, hopefully not bios limited, 

i mean if you think the cooling on this model laptop is good (based on what i have seen it seems fine) and its gaming you're looking for i would say to go for it 

1) mainly because even though older generation you get higher base clock speeds

other than its up to you to decide if slightly higher clock speeds are worth all that effort 

to me it doesnt seem so, but only because work part time in media so i would use those core

So you think the quad core will still be enough?

 

1080 still packs a punch.

 

32GB of RAM is a lot too.

EDIT: just to be clear, the better single core performance is going to give better gaming results, but the main improvement will come from the gpu
