Where the hell do you live where ducks build nests in a house's yard?

More importantly where in the hell do they live that they consider THAT a yard...looks like a damn riverbed xD

I'm more worried about the apparent gravel pit you call a yard, than the ducks nesting under that shrub.

? Apparently, you all are not familiar with desert landscaping. It is popular in desert areas because it looks more like the natural landscape of the area, is inexpensive to put in, uses far less water, if any, and is very low maintenance. Some desert landscaping has a more natural appearance as shown in the OP's photo; others are more formal andd polished (and more expensive).

Ducks will nest anywhere they can where there is access to a body of water after the eggs hatch.

Bad advice.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Yes, it is bad advice to 'pet him' because you can clearly see that this duck in question is female.

It's bad advice becasue, not only should you not disturb a nesting female since you may cause her to abandon her clutch or brood, but she will definitley bite you

looks like he is out west up in the mountains or something. But I would not think a duck would be out there.

Ducks can, and will, live anywhere where there is water and groceries (which is pretty much anyting that will fit in their beaks and slide down their gullets; they will even eat grass). As mentioned before, I live in a desert (the Phoenix area of Arizona) and there are urban lakes, irrigation canals, and ditches that are lousy with ducks (and, to a much lesser degree, geese; heck, I've seen pelicans here). I have yet to travel anywhere in the SSA where slow moving streams and still bodies of water didn't have ducks.
