Asus laptop no POST anymore

Hey everyone,

so I have a blank laptop motherboard here. I wanted to boot it into Ubuntu through its SD card, but that didn't show up as a boot option. I disabled network booting (since that only gave me errors on boot) and secure boot, and now it won't POST anymore. It's not the end of the world if it's dead (I probably have another old laptop lying around somewhere), but I wanted to finish a project and now... eh.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried removing the CMOS battery, waiting, and plugging it back in (I actually powered it on without the battery before putting it back in). I really wouldn't know where the CMOS jumpers are located on this thing... but maybe someone does?

Best wishes,

John

you can can also use a screwdriver instead of a jumper for cmos.

I know, that's not the issue. I just don't know WHERE to do that, since it's a laptop board. There are no visible pins to jump.

Oh right - misunderstood. What exact motherboard is it?

Welp, I got it. I just had to leave the CMOS battery out for longe and leave it to boot off of my USB for a while.

Only thing now is... the fan doesn't spin. Now, it doesn't seem to be running very hot, so... we'll see, I guess.

EDIT:

I found out why I was so impatient, I was waiting for the splash screen. That never showed up, because the board still saw an internal screen, even though that was disconnected. It also showed the internal screen with a wrong resolution in Ubuntu.

Ironically enough the external screen I had it hooked up to via hdmi was the internal screen that I had salvaged to turn into a second monitor ages ago. So that's an interesting turn...
