ryzen 5 and ryzen 7

should i get a ryzen 5 2600 or a ryzen 7 1700?

 

i mainly use pc for gaming,streaming,video editing and software programming.

Ryzen 3000 will be announced in a few days (Monday), if you can't get the new CPU's then you'll be able to get the 2700 for the price of the 2600 soon enough

how "soon" are we talking about,it takes usually a month when a new part comes out and for the other to go down

Yeah I would say about a month for everything to settle, but at least you'll hear what AMD has to offer with their new CPU's and then we can make a judgement

Q3 (July-sept) is said to be release of ryzen 3000

if you need it now, go with 2600

Since the Ryzen 1600 is $79.99 now, it's already there.  I'd build Ryzen 1600 systems all day long, well one a day at least.  

 

For the OP, go with the 2600 if you have to go now if those are your 2 choices.

All of your task is better with more cores, especially video rendering or if you do VM.

It's a Microcenter in-store, has been for over a month now.  Hell of a Loss Leader tho.  

 

They combo the Gigabyte DS3H or whatever for $119, it's nuts.

The Gigabyte DS3h is well suited for a 2200G or less, it doesnt overclock well with my 2400G and there is not a lot of features on this board, 1 cpu fan header, 1 case fan header, 1 M.2 slot. I don't think its a good idea to drop a 2600 in it.

Sorry, wasn't recommending it for the 2600.  I was just stating that a CPU/motherboard combo (1600 + DS3H) is ridiculously cheap.  For the 2600 I'd recommend a better board of course.

If you're looking to dip your toes in Ryzen I like the suggestions above for the 1600.  Then you have a pretty nice upgrade path for a 3000 series cpu.
