Is this a ridiculous deal?? Trying to pick out a thin & light gaming laptop

Go to solution Solved by Sorenson,

The refurbished Razer balde looks like a good deal as long as it’s from a reputable source. The 2018 version cools itself better than the 2017 version, and also has cooler surface temperatures. The cpu will throttle in blade, but it can be reduced significantly by undervolting.

The blade 15 actually has pretty decent cooling when you compare it to other similar laptops. I recommend checking out ultra book review for good laptop reviews.

Hi all.

I am moving in to a small apartment and looking to replace my gaming pc with a laptop.

I found this refurbished 1070 Razer Blade 15 on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Blade-Smallest-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07D8YBNSS/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=razer+blade+15+1070&qid=1558318123&s=electronics&sr=1-2

I was considering going for the new 2070 or maybe even the 2080 version, but this just seems like an insanely good deal. Do you guys think the 2070 version new for $1000 more is worth it?

I'd rather go this route.. Better cooling..

Hmmm....

I should add, I'm kind of trying to replace both my PC and old laptop with one device... So I want something that is thin and looks nice

Then you definitely want something that has good cooling.. Something thin laptops..don't have.. If you're not gaming much or doing intensive tasks, then get a thin one, I'm sure it'll be okay..

The MSI I just listed is a good looking laptop (one of the best, IMO) anyway lol so I'm not sure what you're talking about.. Unless you want everyone to think you have a macbook lol.

For sure. I guess I'll be switching over from a Macbook Pro.. the display is dying from the whole flexgate thing. I'm pissed. Not buying anymore apple products.

I guess I'm just looking for something that is going to be comparable to the macbook in terms of look and build quality, but also game pretty well. Maybe that laptop doesn't exist

I don't care much for laptops anymore.. I bought an MSI GE72VR a year and a half ago (7700HQ and GTX 1060) and it doesn't get used much anymore unless I'm on vacation or something.. I bought it because it was the only computer I planned to use for a while and I got it because it had decent cooling.. and it still got hot..  When I buy something I want it to be cooled well and I just don't trust thin laptops to provide the cooling necessary for gaming..

I guess read some reviews out there and see what they say.. I haven't looked into it much lately but from the videos I've seen recently, I still wouldn't go thin for more than average every day tasks (not heavy gaming).. Thermal throttling is a thing, so keep that in mind..

I think a thin one would be fine for:

Videos/Youtube/Netflix

Microsoft Office

Adobe Suite

Internet Browsing

LIGHT (very light) Gaming

Porn

Paint

Stuff like that.. If you only plan to game for an hour at a time I doubt it matters much.. But good luck not thermal throttling when playing 3+ hours on a thin notebook...
