Budget build request but wants 1440p

The kid's cpu options are i3 8100 or 2200g but he wants 1440p, i don't think that's a good idea. Because I'm not sure if it'll bottleneck or not, he wants a zotac rtx2070 amp for gpu to push the frames I know the 2070 is *1440p card but will either cpu have problems?

Best Value Build List

Budget 1080p System (RGB) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7v2Lmq - (this build comes with two free games with the RX 570)

depends on the game and settings

it's a crappy pairing but some games will run with this combo at 1440 if we ignore what the setting and ultimate frame rate would end up being

both CPUs will hold the 2070 back hard, it will still be "playable" but i would recommend saving up for a better CPU as well

Your CPU is a big bottleneck.  I would upgrade CPU and then grab a 2070 and you will be set.

=.= that's what I'm trying to say to him, that's why I'm trying to get a better suggestion like maybe if I can swith out the rtx 2070 for something cheaper and still give him 1440p.

I was thinking a powercolor rx vega 56 8gb red dragon and maybe a i5 8400 or 9400F?

For 60 fps gameplay, it really depends on the games.

What are some of the titles expected to be played?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The RTX 2070 is not for budget builds. Ask him if he REALLY needs ray tracing, and if he does, will he be ok with a 2060. It's only 20% slower but is cheaper by almost $200. Otherwise, the GTX 1070 Ti (no ray tracing) is great for 1440p and is $150 cheaper than the 2070. It will game in 1440p well. He can then spend the extra $100 or $200 on a better CPU like the Ryzen 7 2700X or i7-9700K.

Isn't a 2700X overkill for gaming lol

yeah lol good luck on a quad core, that ain't happening with any GPU. Tell him 4 cores isn't pulling 60 fps for that library at any resolution, not without a stuttery mess.

He should grab a 570 if that's the case.

Not for the games you just stated. Assassin creed is notorious for being a thread hog and same with the tomb raider

So basically he's screwed at 1440p,

What do you think about the suggestion I asked?

I5 9400F + Vega 56 8gb?

Granted the 2600 is a great middle ground and is much cheaper so if budget is a concern then It is a great option.

I would stay away from the i5 for those titles tbh. Not great value.

the i5 would help quite a bit. Vega 56 is also great for 1440p.

Here's what I'm thinking :

Intel i5 9400F /Ryzen R5 2600 (whichever is cheaper)

B360/b450 motherboard

Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz cl15 16gb

PowerColor RX Vega 56 8gb Red Dragon (cheapest vega 56)

His ssd 256gb his hdd 1tb

Corsair TX650m 80+ gold semi-modular

Overall pretty solid, Vega 56 models on eBay are also going for really good prices, that's where the value 1440p experience is at.

Ryzen will be cheaper so just make sure you put that extra $10 saved into a quality motherboard, your upgrade options in the future will also be very open.

I still have a few b450 mortars in reserves I'm sure I can use one of that for this kid. The system I'm suggesting for him. In under $800 for him. Since I'm using his case, storage and psu.

If they're going to upgrade later on, I suggest getting the Ryzen 2200G (with a Wraith cooler), with an X470 motherboard (for the features) and 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM, in the form of either 2x4GB, or 4x2GB modules. From there grab a 128GB SATA III SSD, a 2TB 7200RPM HDD, and an 80 Plus Silver 800W PSU. That should take care of most of the basics. If you can, get either a GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, or RTX 2060. All three of these cards can play at 1440p60fps, with the 1070's having more VRAM, and fairing better in certain situations. While your CPU will initially be a bottleneck, upgrading later down the line will alleviate this.

I would rather step down to a 2060 and push up my cpu to an i5 9400 or r5 2600.or if he doesnt really want ray tracing , 1070ti is also a great option
