Why is Epic hated/disliked by some? (noob question)

Probably a sum of nearly all of these answers and some people just hate Fortnite and in turn hate Epic for it.

No, but all the arguments are see are simply fear mongering based on the simple fact that they're partially chinese owned. And usually that's followed up with the invalid point I had below that. 


If I saw arguments like "epic has previously been caught handing over data to the chinese government, so that's bad", or "actually the chinese government has forced companies not majority owned by a chinese stakeholder to fork over data through this process", or anything else based on a concrete argument, it'd be different. But I haven't.

Epic client is hot garbage. And the last thing we need is this exclusivity bullshit within PC platform itself. It's not a healthy competition as everyone is so desperately trying to portray, it's a very bad thing long term which is why it needs to go away and people shouldn't be embracing or supporting it.

I save my effort for times where it matters. A random forum post on a tech forum where people are blindly bashing companies for simply having ties to china does not count as that to me. Sry if that irks you. If the message gets across, it's good enough for these circumstances. If I'm giving a deposition in court, maybe I'd put some thought into it. But alas, that's not the case

That's not true. I installed the Epic Game launcher and it prompted me to find instances of existing games.....Or was that the Blizzard launcher  Idk, I installed too much stuff last night.

So you mean people can’t be skeptical of a company’s being partially owned by a conglomerate that has a social credit system for one of the largest country’s governments?

Trust me, I don’t just take issue with Tencent and Epic. Vivendi Universal bothered the shit out of me because I absolutely fucking abhor Vivendi, NBC and Comcast and what they are.

I mean you can, but I argue it's unjustified. Just because someone who's done things you don't like is an investor in something else doesn't mean that thing is bad. 

Microsoft made windows 10. But I don't hate or refuse to use anything microsoft has invested in. If and when I see microsoft using their influence as an investor to push forced restarts of the stuff they invested in like windows 10, then I'll get mad. But discrediting something that could otherwise be great because an investor MIGHT try to carry over bad practices is going way too far IMO

You know that the US government ended all of its Huawei contracts over that, right? That whole brand is basically dead in the Western Hemisphere because of their ties to the Chinese government.
