Where will technology be?  Will HDDs be obsolete?  Will the conventional console cease to exist?  Will the Japanese lead a trend in which people date robots instead of people?

Give your insight and in a decade, @LinusTech can wipe the dust bunnies away from this thread, and we shall see who is the great LTT Fortune Teller (or lucky guesser)!

Conventional PC's as we know them today will not exist and PC gamers and enthusiasts will look back at people with amazingly complicated builds with custom loops and 3/4 way SLI Xfire and wonder at how we played anything on bulky complicated rigs like we have. Well unless we're all dead or something...

To be honest, I don't see conventional PCs going away like that. Different approaches at making computers like Razer's Project Christine are pretty much destined to fail as they're attempting to improve upon something that's better than them.

I foresee computers staying. But I believe they will be essentially dead for the average consumer. Dell, HP and so on will close their consumer-side business and focus entirely on business and enterprise solutions. I foresee NVidia, Intel and possibly AMD staying alive, but they will release devices less frequently and have less flashy press events for each.

I believe we will see exponential advancements in tablet devices when it comes to their processing and graphical power as well as storage capacities and features. I believe there will be huge advancements made in the field of haptic feedback, which will be only one of many advancements which will be key in making tablet devices legitimate productivity tools.

I also believe Windows will regain its place as the ultimate desktop Operating System, and in particular as the best Operating System for gaming. I foresee Microsoft opening up their Xbox division and allowing PC users to play at least a small selection of Xbox titles through a new service which will replace Games for Windows Live - it will operate in a manner similar to Steam, and all Xbox titles which can be purchased through the service will offer 100% interoperability with Xbox One / Xbox The Third (achievements, game saves, DLC) including complete multi-platform online play.

in ten years time the polar ice will of melted and we all be living under water. We will all be connected together to have one mass consciousness and the world wide web as we know it today will be within our collective minds.

Either that or the great penguin army will of rise up and seized power! All hail our lord and saviour! Pingu!

3D projection consoles are next, or something along those lines. I can see that for consoles in the future. That and maybe the return of VR but more affordable and far better quality, in the experience and graphically.

I want to see the elimination of dedicated GPUs by then. Bulky POS in my opinion, and becoming closer and closer to unnecessary. Multi-CPU computers for consumers, maybe.. Gigabit LAN in 85%+ of all developed countries' neighborhoods. The elimination of pocket cellphones, destruction of tablets, and computers that can run games of 2014/2015 at max quality settings @4k but are roughly the depth of a remote and are built into freesync technology monitors.

Robots wouldn't exist for at least another 20 years after that IMO. At least ones that are close enough to a human that we can consider them useful. By then, we may be exporting workers to mine various metals/resources on Mars and will need more automated food sources to get rid of the rural workers. At that point, one of two things could have happened/will be happening:

- Global famine/war/etc. due to overpopulation, crap economy and whatever else suits your apocalypse scenario

- The elimination of "work" beyond what requires human intelligence to operate, which only the smartest/most knowledgeable/most capable humans will do for large salaries. The rest of the population would pretty much live blissful, effortless (to an extent) lives.

Dependant on machines and some form of public government to pave the way of our lives beyond the first 20-30 years of education we will get. The education would mostly be to teach us the bare minimums required to kind of fend for ourselves in that day and technological age, along with random subjects to make our lives easier.

People would probably be required to know various measurement systems, languages and science-related information just to understand all the things. E.G. You can't get a wormhole/suspended animation spaceflight ticket to Jupiter if you don't know how to calculate your 100% unique DNA-related encryption key to open your bank account with or some shit. Tack on basic alien microbial disease/virus treatment that you are forced to do yourself since humans are taught many things from the medical field at an early age and it really makes for an interesting future.

Perhaps I'm thinking 140+ years from now or something, but I don't know. I have a feeling the world will begin shifting towards this lifestyle by 2044-2054. Then in the next 20-40 years, full commercialization of interplanetary travel would exist, if not potentially further depending on what turns up in physics research and what we understand about the universe by then. I'm quite confident we'll have a massive breakthrough that will change everything, and I'm really hopeful that this cancer doesn't get me because I'd live far longer than 2054..

I love custom PCs, but I too would like to see the dedicated GPU go away.  If we can somehow create powerful gaming tech that can be passively cooled, that would be amazing!  Without the discrete card, much smaller rigs will become possible.
