Yeah, coin mining hits your hardware hard, so forget about doing anything else. Also, there is not a single Mac that has sufficient cooling at sustained high load.

I wouldn't say it's quite that bad but yes, iMacs do get very hot under load.

IIRC a 2017 iMac I used hit around 100°C when I was 'gaming' on it. I wouldn't even want to think how hot it'd get while mining.

It's not worth mining if you want to get profit out of it. Electricity alone will likely cost you more money than you'll mine.

You can still profitably mine some coins however. All you need to do is go outside and walk around the streets by your house and you'll probably find some coins, this is much better money and much easier on your equipment as well.

 

Soda cans also have a fairly decent conversion rate to USD.
