FX-8350 and Radeon 7 (later Navi GPU)=bottleneck??

Hi,

Looking some advice, have older PC build, thinking on upgrade as my rig is approx 5 years old, I am father, mechanical engineer and gaming enthusiast,

Planing to get:

Radeon 7 GPU + PREDATOR XZ350CUBMIJPHZ 35" 2560X1080 VA 144HZ FREESYNC monitor.

 

Once Radeon release strongerGPUbased on Navi architecture, will get it instead Radeon 7, however worry about bottleneck on existing CPU etc.

 

I dont want to spend crazy mad on top end PC/gaming Rig, but want to upgrade to have gaming fun for next couple of years with decent quality experience, higher than mid performance but not 2 or more GPUs in case :D

 

can you guys make any suggestions please?

The 8350, a CPU that can be had for like $40, and a $700 graphics card? Yes that's a bottleneck.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

This CPU is terrible, it even bottlenecks last gen mid range cards like 1060/RX580 etc.

Even your current GTX 980 Ti is bottlenecked btw, you won't notice anything change when you upgrade.

^^^ The 980 Ti can probably push 144Hz 1080p ultrawide already if you fiddle with settings, whereas that CPU won't do close to that. I'd go for an i5 8600K or 9600K, good mobo, and a beefy cooler. I had an 8600K at 5Ghz, kept up with a 1080, 1080 Ti, and SLI 1080s easily. Ran Destiny 2 at 1080p max settings with a 1080, got 144fps solid the whole time, saw one drop to 143 but that was it.

Check your GPU usage while gaming. It bottlenecks the 980 massively, upgrades your platform before purchasing a new card.

What games are you playing? That chip is very outdated and will certainly bottleneck in many games. Hell, in my secondary rig my OC'd 8320 bottlenecks my 290x at times (comparable to a 1060 or RX 580). In lighter games you'll still be fine, but I would suggest getting a Ryzen 2400g or wait to see what Ryzen 3000 has to offer.

Get a Ryzen 5 2600+ w/ mobo and new DDR4 RAM or a i5 9600K w/ cooler, mobo and new DDR4 RAM

Thankfully i have Linus and you guys, looks like I will check CPU vs GPU how bottleneck is and will go first for new mother and CPU.

Sorry mate but FX-8350 is considered "obsolete" nowadays and is advised against being purchase by all means.

 

You will need to buy a new computer.

My plan is to get stable system for running 1440P in 100Hz+ games for at least 3 years, 4K is too expensive,

You cannot do it for myself so need to come up with something and will ask if it has arms and legs :D

Downloading GTA5 now :)

 

So far tested, max settings, 1080p:

Dying Light = CPU on 85-90%, GPU on 57%

Ark Survival evolved =  CPU on 52% max, GPU on 100%
