My school used to use macbooks with 1 gig of ram

(Now I'm homeschooled, so my school computers use phenom II x4s with 8 gigs of ram & an HD 6770.  ^_^

My school has Chromebooks in the library and apparently the middle school did a big thing this year to get kids to use tech more. (I see middle schoolers carrying around Chromebooks that were given to them by the school..)

My school has Core 2 Duo systems using Intel graphics (Not sure on RAM) and 1280x1024 screens in most of the rooms. Not too bad, Minecraft runs okay-ish-notreally-ish on them. My Applied Electronics room has beasts for computers compared to all the other ones. (Core I7s, expensive Quadro graphics, 1080p screens, dunno about RAM, etc.)

When I was in 8th grade my parents pushed me into a Aerospace and Engineering middle school. Didn't like it, but I got to get up an hour later and I barely had any homework. The computers there were the same as the ones at my school but with widescreens. I took a modelling class (I forget what program we used) and I think those computers were I7s, but I forget the rest. My digital engineering class (Basically just Photoshop) had iMacs. Those were pretty good, but my screen faced towards the teacher so I couldn't play Happy Wheels like everyone else without getting yelled at.. My teacher in that class would actually take control of my computer/mouse first. One time I turned the WiFi off so he couldn't do that. I wasn't allowed on the computer after that.

You are really lucky. My school has old HP desktops with Pentium Inside processors with 2gb of DDR2 memory and are really slow. Plus they have Windows XP on them so... MALWARE FTW!!!! I have a question though, are all of the computers like this in your school?

My college has pretty overkill computers. Their "gaming" computers also have a 3770 but a 7770. They use them for only games but that is rare that they do.

I just noticed, 16 gigs of ram, why would you need that? Are all of the PCs like this? 16 gigs? Only for video editing.

My university has atleast one computer lab in every building. They all have these really old dells running windows 7 on 720p displays. The computer science majors have a two room lab all to ourself. The computers in this room range from imacs to two desktops with six core i7s, dual titans and dual 30" 1440p monitors. We can use then whenever we want for school or programming purposes but on weekends and weekdays after 5pm we can fillout a sign in sheet to use them for pretty much anything. I carry my 1tb usb3 hdd with me to play my steam games. Today I spent about 2 hours playing paranautical activity (just got it from humble weekly sale).

Schools are so fucking stupid regarding IT. We have 2 special pc's with I5's and dedicated GPU's and 8gb RAM for Photo editing, cuz the art class needed it, never once used, they blocked Photoshop... Our pc's in school have i5's and 120GB Intel SSD's, running Win7 and XP, total overkill.

It probably is overkill for some students but maybe some of them are studying some sort or CAD courses nad so forth. Plus from my knowledge, in the UK there was some sort of scheme for schools where educational based facilities get a decent amount of discount on certain computer parts when bought in certain quantities. if so then why not.
