So i gessed its dead....pluged my other harddrive just to chack it gets power...this 1 didnt even start...now after plugging it back where it belonhs it wont start

After looking i understood this cable isnt the from my psu but my brothers...

Did this cable kill my hard drive? Or is it somthing eles?

Sorry for spelling on phone

"sata power or whatever it's called" needs to be defined, if it's actually power and not data it is possible that the drives have been fried.

If it's running from your PSU, it's very possible that you have killed them, yes. Not all modular PSU cables are inter-operable, which is why it's very strongly recommended that you use ONLY cables that came with your PSU or are designed to work (verified) with your PSU from someone like Cablemod.

There are ways to recover the data at home, things like replacing the PCB with an identical model, but they generally are fairly difficult to do, often are ineffective, and pose the risk of making the data recovery even more difficult for a recovery center.

If the data you need is critical, you're going to be sending it off to data recovery specialists. It's not going to be cheap.

Modular PSU? Sounds like it could have blown the HDD. If you need data recovery, you could look at the cost. It may be an easy/cheap fix of replacing a fuse on the HDD controller board. If the HDD controller is dead, it's a more expensive fix.

My brother fried a HDD controller, but thankfully only blew a heat resettable fuse, that when removed, allowed the drive to function without protection. So I could remove the fuse, recover the data, then chuck it (as partially damaged, not worth risking losing more data).

You could post photos of the circuit board under the HDD (don't remove it at this point). Or if you have backups, just replace the drives. :(

PS, HDD or SDD, 3.5 or 2.5inch?

[Edit]

This is the fix I did, but *only* works if that one part is the part that blew:

Burned TVS diode

Yeah, chips on back side of PCB. You would need a security allen key/screwdriver set, and to carefully remove it to look at it. It probably means you need to get a data recovery firm to get the data instead (if they are pro, they could replace the fuse/voltage regulator, or swap the board/platters out).

Those green circles are probable the TVS fuses. If they are blown, post a picture. If not, put the drive back together, and get a pro recovery. :/

let's hope you have a backup of this super important data?

no obvious signs of things going pop on that board.

most of the importent stuff. luckly i DO

but some my personal art and stuff are just there....this truly suck....

i mean that cable looked extacly like my crosair cable...so...i thinked it was the same only looking after i saw it didnt had the same marking....

Usually some black smoke would show/soot would show through the other side (probe points, or general gaps in the side). But it could just be very small on the other side. Hard to see without removing the PCB. But removing the PCB could damage it more.

They will look and fit exactly the same, but their pinouts may be different. Even within the same company, pin outs aren't always the same. This is where the danger lies.

Read this article and/or watch these videos if you want to learn more.

i do not recommend trying to start a computer with a hard drive that has issues. it will take forever for the computer to start up.

instead get a SATA to USB cable.  newegg, amazon, etc.. generally has them for say 5 to 10 bucks.

or you can get an external hard drive case, which ends up even more.

once you can plug drive in via usb cable, startup computer, and then plug drive in via usb cable.

windows, linux, etc... may never actually recognize the drive. the recovery software is what should recognize the drive if drive is not completely shot.

==================

a lot of the hard drive recovery software always for trail running, you get to see your data if it can obtain it. but you can only copy over say only a couple files to let you know it can do it. then you need to buy the recovery software to access rest of the files and move them to a new hard drive.

i have had different luck with different software.  some files i loose all the names to the actual files themselves, but if i opened them up in correct program i was able to recover most of the data. others such as pictures and videos the ended up garbaled up in different spots,  other parts of drive i was able to get intact while others complete loss.

WARNING. make sure hard drive has plenty of air flow on it to keep it cool, it can take hours for things to happen just for recovery software to bring up a possible list of files, and in process the drive can further over heat and cause more damage as the program tries to get your stuff.
