What should I pay for a i5 6600k ?

UbeLover

So there’s a i5 6600k on Craigslist and I haven’t asked the person if they ever overclocked it and I was wondering if I should get it it’s $130 USD

Unless you get a really good price, I don't recommend getting a i5 6600k. But 130 is a really good price and do recomend it if it is in good condition/wasn't overclocked. On ebay they go for around 150 USD:https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR9.TRC2.A0.H0.Xi5+6600k.TRS0&_nkw=i5+6600k&_sacat=0

I would drop 130 on it but no more.

only if you have all the spare parts (mobo & slow rams), I will pay ~$60 max for cpu

Not worth it. Z170/270 doesn't have anything with more than 4 cores. And after factoring a Z170/270 board and a decent cooler into the price, you'd be better off with a Coffee or Ryzen 6 core.

$130 is way, way too much money. Should be closer to $60. That's about what I paid for my $7600k last year.

Avoid it. Used CPUs aren't really worth it unless you're getting them super cheap, since most of the stuff prior to 8th gen is now obsolete.

There's not that much difference between a i5 6500 and a i5 6600k. Especially if you don't have a Z170/Z270 motherboard and aren't able to overclock it.

if you already have a 6500 then it's not worth it.

If you upgrade, get an i7-6700k.

I wouldn't bother replacing an i5 6500 with a 6600K. In most scenarios your current i5 will feed your gpu appropriately. Imo, the only relevant options to consider upgrading to would be the i7s, ( i7 6700K & 7700K. ), and only if you can get them for a somewhat decent price. The i7s offer significantly better frametimes than the regular quad cores without hyperthreading, performing on par with the current gen Coffee Lake i5s which are 6 cores and 6 threads. If you can snag a 6700K or 7700k for around the 200-220 price point and you have the cooling to handle overclocking them, I'd say go for it. A 6700K or 7700K overclocked to 4.7 GHz+ would be a good step up from your current processor both in single core and multi core performance. So that'd be the avenue I'd take.

Main PC :

CPU = R9 3900X / Motherboard = Asus Crosshair 8 Hero / GPU = EVGA SC Ultra RTX 2060 / RAM = G.Skill 3600 16-19-19-39 ( 32GB / 4x8 ) / Cooling = Dark Rock Pro 4 / Storage = Western Digital Caviar Blue ( X4 ) Crucial 500GB NVME, 500GB 970 EVO/ PSU = Seasonic X-850 Modular / Case = Corsair Carbide 200R

Wireless = Asus PCE-AC56 / Keyboard & Mouse = Corsair K70 MX Blue, Logitech G203 / Headphones = Hyperx Cloud Alpha /
