Sound Using USB Works but 3.5mm doesn't (headphones)

AustinBlyat

So I'm using a Logitech G430. A couple weeks ago the Logitech Gaming Software doesn't affect my headphones anymore (maybe someone could help me with that too?), so I switch to 3.5mm since there is no more use for the USB adapter. A couple days ago, I turn my PC on and it shows the no sound icon. I run troubleshooter and it says it's not plugged in when it is. I get frustrated and try the back audio ports, nothing. I reinstall drivers for my mobo (Gigabyte H370 HD3), nothing. Its Realtek sound drivers btw, no sound card just integrated. So I've been running on USB for now and I'm really frustrated. I've tried what websites told me and that doesn't work. It shows me this in the sound panel (see picture below). It says it does sound over HDMI and that makes sense with AMD since I use a RX 580. The weird thing is it says all of them are not plugged in. Please help.

Audio over HDMI only works if the monitor supports it as well.

Try making a bootable Linux flash drive (Ubuntu or a similar distro should be fine) and see if you get audio on there, that way we can see if it's an issue with Windows or something else.

Did you install anything around when it stopped working? If you right click in the Playback menu, does it show both show disabled devices and show disconnected devices as checked?
image.png.bfa2548d2e0f0fffb21908a3de54c09d.png

Are there any other devices in the Playback menu other than the Digital Display Audio ones?

have you tried just uninstalling/disabling your sound drivers and rebooting rather than just downloading an installer? Windows should recover, something similar happened with my ethernet and it having like 20 devices in device manager, i deleted them all and it worked afterwards

could you take a screenshot of ALL your sound settings, like in device manager, sound control panel etc.

from what i see in the pic you provided it doesnt even look like you have an audio device besides the digitial display audio

There is this, it's my headphones connected using the USB adapter, and yes it does show those 2 options checked.

you should be able to just disable rather than install,

however is there another audio device in device manager or the sound settings? image.png.d94674a9d5e062adb9d91b697c9e5017.png

mine shows whats in the pic when im just using my 3.5mm

if there is, check that its the default sound device, and make sure you dont have a ps4 controller if you have one plugged in, as its headphone jack can be used for audio as well

no I don't own a ps4 controller. the other audio device is, as ive shown before, the AMD high definition thing. Right now I currently have the USB connection (speakers g430) set as my default since it is the only thing that can produce sound. when i connect my 3.5mm it just shows the 6 disconnected AMD stuff.

So um, I think I have pinned down the cause of all of that not being plugged in (see picture).  It's probably because that controller isn't running, but I have no idea of how to get it to work.

when you open that panel that has the status, go into change settings, driver tab, and try disabling/reenabling the device, as well as check for updates, if all else doesnt work try uninstalling the device checking that you want to uninstall the driver as well, again windows should recover

So when I uninstall the device should I restart my PC for Windows to get it back or just leave it like that and Windows should recover anyways.

Op it might look like either it has the wrong drivers installed or it might actually be bad hardware, have you tried uninstalling the drivers and running and older version?

I've only tried deleting old drivers and installing new drivers and that doesn't work. I am actually also starting to think that the hardware has gone bad, might have to get a sound card just to connect headphones and get them working. But could collecting dust be a problem? Because I really don't want to ask my parents for a sound card.

You can get a sound card for pretty cheap, it could be something shorting out from dust, but it's unlikely
