Regarding the Recent Hiring Announcement

Hello, everyone!

Though I've been subscribed to LTT since... Well, young me discovered the wonders of the internet, I am a brand new member of the forums. So, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum, and also if it's violating any of the rules of Off Topic.

There was a video posted a little while ago on the main channel about hiring, and needless to say I'm interested. All things considered, it would be a bit of a stretch to believe LMG would hire a relatively inexperienced young adult, but I have quite a bit of history in sets and being a sound technician. This coupled with my passion for tech led me to click the link and begin the form... And I immediately was halted by a question. So, I came here hoping for some advice. How would I determine if I'm eligible to work in Canada, as I currently live in the south-west United States? Relocating wouldn't be an issue, as far as I can foresee, so this is really the only thing hindering me. Any advice or help is appreciated, and I thank you in advance!

A great starting point will be looking at the work visa program for Canada.

Ah, thank you so much! I wasn't sure if this was where I needed to start, or if there was some other prerequisites.

Do you have any documented experience working in those fields?

They've hired people before, but I'm not entirely sure these categories would fit into the express entry program.

As it stands now, you'd need a job offer to be eligible for entry into Canada. So, strictly speaking, you are currently not eligible to work in Canada.

I would go for a bachelor or master degree in a needed field of study because there are special working visa permits for people with these degrees. I personally went with computer science.

Posts in Off-Topics doesn't count toward post counts, because its trash content most of the time.

I'm brand new, pretty much fresh out of high school, no sort of documented work experience that would be of relevance to the skills they're looking for. Then again, I suppose just about anyone can claim they have experience anywhere, so my chances are virtually zero. Also, thank you for the clarification on the legalities, that was the most confusing part for me!

Ah, yeah then their chances of proving that you offer something that a Canadian wouldn't are pretty slim to none. IIRC the Canadian Government also looks into it, so unless you want to be barred from ever trying in the future, I wouldn't lie about it ;)
