Animations from movie to game

Pi31415

So I’m in a argument about kingdom hearts 3, my sister in law is convinced that they could take the animations from the Elsa cut scene from the movie where she is building her castle and put them into the game. I’m saying this cannot be done, and if it is somehow done it would be a lot more work, can someone back me up? Or if I’m wrong back her up?

Since cutscenes in movies are pre-rendered, it could be put into the game as a regular video, but if it was rendered in real time using the game engine, it would require some work to be done on the game.

Why would it be impossible, or harder? If they have access to that data and can just transpose it into the game's engine then it's super easy, or they rotoscope it via 3D to replicate it super closely.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Why wouldn't it be possible to do? Look at older PS1-era games when games switched to using CDROMs which had a lot more space available and game developers started using LIVE ACTION cut scenes in their games.

I think replicate it would probably be what I was thinking but to actually just copy paste would be more work since a game is made to view everything from one point but with a movie, no one would ever have a chance to see what’s behind or in front etc etc since the camera is forced on one way with literally no way to change it

ok but then just fill in the other details after the copy/paste

it can absolutely be done. if they have access to the animation files (it is Disney after all), it would be a matter of just rigging another model to it and throw it in the game. if they don't, just re mo-cap it as close as possible, or hand animate. Their animation team kind of makes a living doing animation, they would be able to recreate it.

I'm pretty sure it's technically possible to reuse the animations but it's hard to get into the logistics of it without actually working on it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's nearly as much work if not more than making the animations from scratch.

It would probably require Disney's cinematic animators who are different people from those working on the game altogether to help facilitate transitioning animations from different systems.

This is really as close as someone has gotten to my thoughts

You can play the clip using a technology. Otherwise you can also just import the entire scene. It’s possible.

The polycount on movie models are exceptionally high so they may need to be reduced.
