Can I push further or sell? 1060 6GB

Crazycatman

I have had fun with my card (first card btw) and I'm now questioning if I should sell it for a 1080Ti. One of the reasons that I am still hesitant is that I can push this card very very far.

I hit the max adding to memory clock in MSI Afterburner (which is +1000) and I think it can go further. Also has Samsung Memory if that matters.

Second of all, I don't know how much I could sell it for? $249?

Just IMO with what I can do with it, and it's performance I think it would sell well to someone wanting a 1060GB for a ITX purposes as it rarely ever goes above 60c, unless I'm doing heavy stuff like; trying to crash my PC. (happens often lol)

The 1080Ti I want is one of the MSI Lightnings or the Armor variant.

Thoughts?

No. You can buy GTX 1060 6GBs brand new for less than that. Even then if people want a budget card they'd be better off paying $200 for a brand new RX 580 8GB which performs similarly.
$175? Maybe a little more if it's one of the premium models like the Strix or something.

What games are you playing? What monitor are you using? If you're on a 1080p 60hz monitor then there's really no point upgrading to a 1080Ti since it won't really do anything. If you're playing 4k 60hz or 1440p 144hz then the 1080Ti might be worth while upgrading to.

Apparently the Armor variant is very loud and has cooling issues. The "Armor" series is usually the cheap, budget variants from MSI. I would personally avoid them when you're considering high end cards like the 1080 Ti.

Unless you need that extra performance, is it really worth selling? It'll definitely be a noticeable upgrade but unless your 1060 just isn't cutting it, there isn't much point in upgrading.

Also if you do buy a 1080 Ti, don't buy an MSI Armor card. Their coolers are terrible. Go for an EVGA or MSI Gaming X. MSI Lightning is a pretty nice card too.

@Spotty Apparently OP has an MSI Armor 1060 (found out from profile). I'd say OP could get $150, what about you?

2560x1080 75Hz and 2x 1920x1080's. I'm also always using Wallpaper engine.

I play BeamNG.drive and I'm a graphical and customization freak when it comes to that game. I can't hit 75Hz on really large maps or the normal one for that matter sometimes.

Also the reason I would by one and use it with my resolution is because I do YouTube, and I have had a bad experience with lower and higher and a blob of that; "Other than 1080p" crap. So I'm sticking with this and it doesn't bother me. I just need more power than a 1060.

Didn't realize they went down that far o-o. I haven't looked at eBay in awhile, just did tho. I guess I can just give it to my brother and buy a new card. selling it for 150$ when I bought it for 239$ doesn't really roll for me.

Eh, no idea tbh. I'm not really in the market for a GTX 1060. :D
I'm sure you could probably still find someone willing to pay $175+ for it though.

Are you gaming on just the ultrawide or are you spanning the game across all 3 monitors for 6400x1080 resolution in game? If you just have the game open on just the one screen and desktop on the others then the GTX 1060 should be fine for 2560x1080 75hz. Might just need to bump a few settings down to "Medium" or "high" instead of "Ultra".
I'm not too familiar with Beam.ng so not sure what its requirements are and how taxing it is on the CPU/GPU... Though looking at your signature I don't think a 7700k at 5.5GHz will give you any CPU related issues... Other than melting...

I mean, if you sell it, at least you get some money back, but if you give it to your brother, you lost $239 , but if you sell it for $150, you only lose $89

He doesn't have a card. Also, at this point, I don't think it would be wise to sell it.

I'm not one to bump down, resolution or settings. I play on the 2560x1080. Though the 1060 is directed at 1080p. It handles 2560x1080 fine, but it can't handle BeamNG.drive even if setting are lowered. Lowering setting in that game makes it look what it isn't supposed to look like, "crap".

5.5Ghz was a one time run, with some question set up on my fans.. and house fans. I normally run it at 5.2Ghz. Also the GPU is maxing out, while CPU sits at 23-40 usage.

$249 was when I was gonna sell it during the summer. I've been busy since then, with school, and car work, and a load of other bull.
