I can't believe this just happened to me,and has it ever happend to you guys?

trainergames

I work at a walmart, and i self tought myself everything i know about computers,i can hardware trouble shoot well, and i had 2 mobos and a video card with blown caps(i have the tools to fix and i know how,but i don't trust my self yet with pc parts i want to use),and one that i have tried replacing everything from the cpu all the way down to the cmos battery, and the screen stays blank.

Well there is a pc repair place about a mile from my house, and they offer free diagnostic's,so i went to take those parts to have them looked ,well the guy who looks at them was not there, but the lady working at the desk left him some messages and while we waited for him to call i was telling her about what was wrong with them, and what i was wanting to with them after i fix them,,like one of them has 2 ethernet ports,1 agp slot, and 5 pci slots, and you can get 10/100 ethernet cards on ebay for $3 a piece,so i could make a really cheap pfsense router out of it.

Well he called and talk to me and he does not do cap replacments,so i filled out some paper work, and left the other motherboard with them, for him to look at, well a little bit ago they called me up and asked me if i want a job,and they want me to come in and pick up an applacation tomarrow, which i will fill out.

TL;DR

Walked into pc repair shop, hour and a half later i get a job offer.

Now the problem is deciding if i want to keep working at walmart, and work at that job,or if i want to put in my 2 weeks at walmart, and work there only.

Is there an advantage to staying at Walmart?

I imagine you'd make way more at the PC repair place than there.

My experience with Walmart is this.

There was a ridiculous sale. $25 for a pair of $80 headphones.

I ask the guy that looks like a dwarf if they are really $25.

He scans them and says no.

I show him where I found them.

They were in a red box that had a $25 sticker on it.

He rips the sticker off.

Me: Why do the headphones fit perfectly on that hook?

Guy: Someone put them there.

Me: Why are there 3 other pair there too?

Guy: Somebody has been pranking Walmart.

I call bullshit!

What ever you think will make you happier. I think the small shop would be better, but then again you get to work at a corporation that rips off people for the most part! What's not fun about that!

Take the job if the hours are offered. You'll get a lot of experience even if you just tinker at the new job.

Plus, if they are part of the Microsoft Partnership, you can take online courses for certain certifications. While they might not be insane or uncommon, they're always a great thing to keep on file.

Not a bad effort dude, congrats

I got my first job every by walking into a Snowboard store about 2 doors up from my house in a town I just moved to and tuned the edges on my own board and waxed it because the casual staff member there had no idea how to :) It's a pretty awesome feeling getting offered a job out of thin air :)

I'm a little bit jealous. I do want to find a job working with computers because I could use the money, and it's something I'm passionate about.

If you are single and young and have no kid then do it.....chances are if you have something he wants its something he doesn't have. That being said you can probably learn a lot from him as well.  If not learning about computers but learning about how business works, something that you will never get from Walmart.  Life experience is worth more than staying stagnant in a job that will offer much less down the road. All in all if I had that opportunity at your age..(im guessing 20-23) I would go for it. Also if you can do both---do it--it will help you decide what makes you happy.  eg....if you get excited to get off work at WM to go fix computers :)   I do freelance computer repair and building on the side of my job as a broadband tech. perfect mix. built in clientele .  That is all.

I am 24 almost 25(in march).

So if he ends up hiring me,i should see about working both jobs and if it is to much, put in my 2 weeks at walmart, and mabye just work with this guy,and if it doesn't work out just go back to walmart? which i should if i put in my 2 weeks.

You should survey and ask the head honcho what you'd be doing while working there. Go ahead and get the application and if it turns into an interviewing process make sure to mention your current standing with Walmart and let it go from there.

I know you're self-taught(I am as well), when I applied for a IT tech job my interviewer asked if I had any IT certifications such as a CompTIA A+(certification of basics of computer hardware and software with some networking), my job doesn't really require it because of the position and level I am working at, but he has been pushing me to get it because it looks good on resumes as well as a bragging piece(even though CompTIA A+ is the lowest form of certification for technicians).

Just giving you a heads up if he asks you that, when he asked me that I sat there with a bewildered look on my face as I have never heard of the CompTIA certifications, I've only ever heard of the Cisco based ones(CCNA, CCVP, CCNP, etc.), when I asked my dad what it was, he was confused as well(my dad is tech savvy as well).

Why not work at both? Its not like there's a limit to the number of jobs you can have.

This.

Work Primarily at the PC store, and if you WANT,.. once you know the PC store workload and your hours of work,...tell Walmart your available hours thereafter, which may be the odd 3+ hour block or weekend...

Make one your Primary and the Secondary can run off whatever time you have left,.. quite do-able,.. But its totally up to you, I'd go with the PC store if your passionate about Computers, being around likeminded people who may or may not know as much as you, good to reflect ideas, gain some friends with the same hobbies,.. who knows the benefits could be HUGE.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

If you can work at both I would do it. I work two jobs right now and its bringing me an average of 70 hours a week. Definitely worth working two jobs to bring in a higher income even if its just for a while
