GPU only 50% at gaming?

Hello lovely LTT Community!

When i play games with my PC (Asus GTX 1080 A8G) the GPU is only at 50%  to 60% usage only.. Temps are never above 55° Celsius to 60° Celsius. Is there maybe something i can do? I also set the prefered power usage at Maximum at Nvidia Controll Panel.

Whatever game(s) you're playing aren't taxing the GPU that much then. This is a good thing unless you're getting poor performance in-game.

I mean for Fortnite it uses only 60% and i could  see some more FPS ingame  using a 240Hz Monitor with average 150FPS is poor  

And for GTA 5 it uses only 50% and getting only 70FPS average. I mean with a GTX 1080 i should get a bit more or am i wrong?

That is a good sign unless you are having problems. What is the usage of the CPU?

CPU could be bottlenecking your GPU, what usage % does the CPU usually run at when you're in-game?

If you want to the most straight forwards fix is DDU in safe mode and resintall the latest GPU driver fresh new to ensure at least its software side is ok.

 

It could be a bottleneck though, how many fps are you getting already? does reducing video quality improve fps? if it doesn't usually it's because something else is the slower link.

CPU is at average 30% usage only. It's a AMD Ryzen 7 1700X at 4GHz. And the temps of the CPU are also never above 60° Celsius   Please don't tell me my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU....

Already did that. But didn't help at all

Well that is a good system you got there I think. Most likely games you play or the stuff you do or the monitor you use just does not use so much or possibly it is a driver problem.

Uh. In the bios i just set it to 3200MHz. Never seen/heard something like "JEDEC"

Can you use CPU-z in the system instead, maybe it shows something on BIOS but may not be what's really going on.

The 1700x is an 8c16t CPU, there is a very good chance that the games aren't using all the threads in games, i'd be surprised if any game put your usage above 70%, at least according to taskmgr i never go above 50% use at 3.9Ghz and i use around 40% on 4.1ghz

but mostly 30 year old boomer games like league, runescape and BF3

I also had this problem, after a fresh install of windows it just *poof* went away.

Just checked my BIOS for Memory. It was set to normal 3200MHz. Now i set it to "DOCP" with the right timings. But i think this wont change anything

To be honest for 240hz you should go to intel, even with games that only use 1 core, i have to oc to 4.4Ghz to get above 200Fps

Yep. But i just wanted to try something new. And Ryzen was/is actually a good CPU.

Still is, most games weren't developed around 240hz, i still only get 150 in league at max settings with no overclock, and i basically can't break 200 no matter what you do

A 2700x would get you closer to 240hz but Intel will actually put you there. Don't get me wrong, Ryzen is amazing value and great performance but the data doesn't lie, Intel is better for gaming.

GTAV is a game that seems to struggle to get 120FPS on average even on processors that would seem right for the task: https://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/1851

 

I would chalk it up this game throwing GPU rendering tasks on one core.

Of course Intel is much better in gaming. Just see the benchmarks
