hdd makes games load faster

pixeldensity

So basically i heard that hdd make your games load faster, and right now my game loads pretty long. It would make sense b/c I have a old hdd from my previous hp pc to save money. So is it true? Would a SG barracuda or wd blue make my games load faster

Higher read speed = faster loading to RAM, so yes.

SSD would be better.

Another newer HDD would be faster but it would not be significant.

I would suggest getting a ssd or a sshd

Depends on what you're upgrading from. A faster drive would make some games load faster.

Also depends what kind. RPM, etc. Even then, speeds will vary between the same RPM drives from different manufacturers.

It's a way too open ended to say yes or no based on HDD. An SSD would be faster, yes.

Depends on your actual Hdd, if it's a really really old one, you can get significant bump in reading speed with a Sg

A faster spinning and reading HDD will cause faster load times compared to slower spinning hard drives, that being said an SSD is still the best at the current time.

if the HDD is actually faster than your old one, yes. But the difference would not be significant and not worth it, I would rather get a SSD, which will decrease your load times significantly.

Like everyone else has said it depends on the drive manufacture when it comes to speed.  You can use a HDD benchmark like CrystalDiskMark and compare your current drive speeds to the ones currently on the market.

As said above ^^^^

An ssd would be a huge step up...But if you have a 5400rpm hdd the a 7200rpm would be a good upgrade :)

Everyone here is right on the money. An SSD loads games faster. And as upliftsleet1974 said. Upgrading to 7200rpm from 5400rpm is pretty good. But my advice would be if you're able to buy a SSD do so and then use your old HDD for storage. Also don't use CrystalDiskMark it's known to contain spyware such as Opencandy which hijacks browsers and who knows what else. But if you're only interested in HDD. Seagate Barracuda and WD Black is what will offer more performance. But at the moment nothing beats an SSD.

i don't have money for a ssd and my current hdd is about 4 years old i think. Any reccomendations? My brother has a pc with a 660ti, i5 @ 3.4ghz, 8 gb of ram and WD Mainstream 1tb hdd. My specs are amd 965 @ 3.4ghz, 7870, 8gb of ram, and Hitachi 750gb. BF4 game takes longer to load on mine than his.

Do you know how much rpm your current HDD has or the product number? Because maybe you have a low rpm HDD and then you could get a 1TBB HDD @ 7200rpm or higher :)

Why use crystal diskmark, when AS-SSD is better.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Okay I just found out it is 7200rpm with 32mb of cache. Also I want to add that it takes a long time for windows to get out of the splash screen too. Also my hdd is about 4years old

so me and my brother have same rpm, but different loading times. His takes less time to load up a game than mine. could it be that his hdd is newer than mine or is it b/c his cache is larger than mine?

Download CrystalDiskInfo and check the health of the drive.
