Which GPU should i upgrade to?

Dr_BraveStone
Go to solution Solved by Dr_BraveStone,

Just purchased, 1070ti

Thanks for your guys help!

Hi there, long time viewer first time poster. I was hoping you guys could help me out.

I've been shopping for a new graphics card but with the recent release of the RTX cards things have gotten a bit complicated.

Which one of these cards should i buy?

I will be pairing the GPU with a 4th Generation Intel I5 4670k.

My primary goal for the card would be to record game play, video editing performance, Twitch streaming, and the graphical upgrade from my current 760.

Also, as  secondary question... do you think my CPU will be a bottle neck for any of the above tasks?

Thanks for your help! Happy new year to you All.

I am excited to finally be updating my graphics card so all of your input is greatly appreciated.

If you'll be using that CPU you should go with either of the 1070's

Thanks for the reply, a future upgrade for me would be new MOBO and new CPU.

Cheers!

Even some games can be a bit ehh with Haswell i5s. My friend has an i5-4670 (non-K) and beamNG.drive wasn't a very nice gaming experience with his GTX 770 Classified.

I found web browsing and general usage to be absolutely perfect with the 4670 though. No issues there.

Well it runs but if you've got more than 1 car spawned it gets quite choppy and laggy.

Hi there!

I really haven't had too many problems with my 4670k. It has not been overclocked, I normally have youtube videos playing, multiple web pages and rainbow six running / playing.

I do notice a major slowdown when i start using Adobe Premier though.

i feel like games either bottleneck real hard or there is none these days, all the ubisoft games are a chopfest on anything less than 6 cores lol.

Yeah, it would be good with youtube videos and web pages since the CPU isn't used much for that, it's usually RAM that gets used.

Adobe Premier slowdowns are to be expected though.

if u can get it the 699 budget models with a free bf5 game it's worth it if you need it, but as a 2080 ti user, this gen is NOT the one you want for long term, (unless u run a 1440p 144hz monitor), then a 2080 will be perfect (but theres a cpu bottleneck for 144)

I was in your same boat I had a 4690k and when i was playing just rainbow I had no issues at all. I eventually started playing other games, when i went to battlefield 1 is where I realllllllllyyy saw it struggling.

The 2080 is the most expensive and probably the most likely to bottleneck so it's not ideal (bottleneck = too weak cpu for gpu or too weak gpu for cpu).

The 1070 Ti is the best deal.

What motherboard have you got? You might be able to overclock and squeeze a bit more power out of your 4670K.

well my cousin has a 4790k and he plays BF5 without complaining about performance so you should be fine just expect some bottle necking and some frame drops. It won't be unplayable.

Asus Z87 K

I have never really had a problem with the CPU it has always done things efficiently.

I was planning to upgrade the CPU, MOBO and Ram after I upgraded the Video card upgrade.

Actually, now that you all have mentioned it...

I have had problems running NBA 2k18. Its been really choppy compared NBA 2k17. I think it might be the CPU.

Cool, I was thinking I might just buy a Used 4790k and just pop it in there, that way i dont have to upgrade the MOBO or Ram.

But you know.... i think that would just be a temporary fix. Upgrading to the new CPU's is really tempting.

zen 2 7nm will last a REALLY long time, then u can choose a gpu depending on your monitor, the next gen 4k/120monitor looks to be alot cheaper too

if i was in ur shoe, i'd grab a 1070 ti and use it for about 2 years.

yeah I personally wouldn't do that, you're exactly right it's a temporary fix. What holds those chips back a bit are their architecture and core count.  You'll be okay for the next year with a 1070ti and a 4670k. If you don't have the money to spare now it won't be the end of the world.
