Going from ryzen 5 to i7/i9 9th gen

Hi guys I'm looking to buy a new processor beacause I wanted quite a bit more powerful singlecore cpu that also has an igpu (VMs) , my gpu is a gtx 1070ti . Should I get an i7 9700k or a 9900k?My budget for this upgrade is 650 USD .

9900k won't fit in that budget

 

9700k performs like an 8700k without the vulnerabilities related to HT and being soldered to have better thermals. I'd pay say $50 more for that, all the time.

id probably not bother with swapping platform and would just get a R7 2700

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

But why? OP wants better single core performance, 2700 will have identical single core performance (unless OP's Ryzen 5 is first gen)

Dont bother swapping plattforms. Suggest eaiting for Zen 2 or get a cheaper 30$ GPU second hand if you want passthrough GPU. 

 

(Mostly because Zen 2 is rumoured to get rid off what i7 and i9 have going for it while adding some extra cores)
