William Cooper was killed due him instigating a shootout with the police. Doing that usually results in the instigater being killed. Especially when he kills an officer in the process.

 

I have a nagging suspicion that if William Cooper had been alive today he would be the kinda guy that would say "woke" unironically.

 

Also, his whole point about sports falls rather flat when we consider that the majority of all organized sport is privatized. It's not the "emperor" throwing the Superbowl, it's the NFL. A privately owned and operated organization.

 

The real reason why athletes make so much money is due to supply and demand.

Not a lot of people can do what professional athletes do, and as such the few that can meet market demands are offered very lucrative contracts.

And God forbid that people like to be entertained by a spectacle and not just sit and ponder politics all the time.

 

Lastly, the ownership of media is not, and has never been, a grand conspiracy. The corporate structures, and the ownership of various media companies, is a matter of public record. Everyone can look up who owns who in public registers.

Because millions of people pay to see them play. The better players tend to make more money because owners of teams make money when their team wins. Someone like Lebron James is one of a kind. Same with Tom Brady. To win you need to have people of that caliber on your team. To get that kind of talent on your team you have to shell out the millions per year because other teams will be offering the player that amount of money as well. 

 

If no one watched sports, they wouldn't be making millions, but a vast majority of the world population enjoys sporting events. Thus demand.
