Spotify to GO?!

cluelessgenius

so here the short version my 6" sony xa ultra is way to big and heavy to take it running. so im thinking about getting something very small to take running. things is i only use spotify so a normal mp3 player wont do. tried looking for one and they start at like 300 bucks and at that price i might as well just get a cheap android phone.

so anybody have an idea on how i can take my spotify playlist running?

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

I'll recommend just getting a cheap Android phone, new or used. It's probably the more versatile than just a mp3 player.

well id gladly sacrifice versatility if i can get away with a smaller but more important lighter device.

i looked at the "mighty" for like 90 bucksbut hoping for alternatives

Get a cheap prepaid Android. You can download the music over WiFi first, then use Spotify in offline mode when you're running. Don't make calls or use data and you shouldn't have to pay anything, except possibly buying a SIM card.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

if i did i could just get no sim card at all. but even the lightes android is still not really what i was hoping for.

so in my own research i now figured out thee options.

"mighty" is basically an ipod shuffle clone for spotify and weighs only 0.6oz or about 20g but costs around 90 bucks

illegally converting spotify to mp3 and using a regualr old mp3 player is basically free but does require constant maintainance on your playlist sync and is well you know...illegal

android wear 2.0 supports storing songs on your watch and listening to them offline on bluetooth earphones but only for google play music

samsung supports playing spotify playlists offline from your watch but only on the gear s2 and s3

getting one of those arm straps for your phone would also be a possibility for like 12 bucks but im not sure on how comfortable that would be

Wired earphone, avoid phones that have shitty DACs

Wireless, you want phone to support apt-X over Bluetooth

ok got it. agree on both. but is not a solution here since i dont want to carry my phone with me at all if possible.

DAP = Digital Audio Player, think of it as the audiophile grade mp3 players of the 21st century

But just like the mp3 players you will have to manage your library on your own.

Unless you get one that is running android, but those are all expensive.

You could grab a 4" cheap phone like this one if you can look past the looks

You have to if you want access to your Spotify playlist

There are arm straps that can hold your phone while running

Also if you care about music quality...

The Axon 7 Mini is a 5.2" OLED screen phone with great DAC if you are using wired earphones. Find a used one for cheap.

I've heard good things about the Axon 7 series, pretty good as a DAP as well with plenty of storage potential via mSD card. IF it weren't for LG's 'V' and 'G' series phones with Quad DAC capability, I'd have looked at the Axon 7 as the phone of my audio centric choice. See if you can find a used one for a reasonable price....

BTW, I use Spotify Premium on my G6 and it's a great audio experience for me when I'm commuting or when I'm on vacation (and the thought of lugging around my DAP or portable audio stack doesn't appeal to me). I'll be in Bangkok next week, and I'll be chilling with my G6 and Spotify.

I did consider this, but thought it rather pricey considering what the OP'd stated in his opening post.
