Worth it to be a regular Xbox One ?

WestcoastPCBuilder
Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

It's not bad, but the new Xbox's can often be found with bundled games. I think they were selling for $249 with 4 games. Sell each game for $30, and you're at about the same price for a better console. You also have a warranty.

I bought an XBox One S over a used Xbox, and I don't regret it at all.

I was thinking of picking up an Xbox One used for $160 cdn, roughly $120 USD. It costs $229cdn for a new xbox one S and I can't take advantage of HDR or 4k Blu ray, so I was thinking this may be a good buy. I want it to play pubg with a buddy at work and I also like sports games with a controller. But will the Xbox One be EOL anytime soon and do you think it is worth it for my usage ?

If you'll use it a lot 120 is a steal.

Pretty good deal. But DO NOT buy PUBG on Xbox one. Unplayable at the moment, especially on the original Xbox one. Even on the Xbox One X it runs in the 20fps range at most points.

The XBox One S has a slight cpu overclock vs the original XBox One but they're virtually the same thing. For $120 CAD that's a steal unless the thing has cockroaches in it or the vents are caked in nicotine, though PUBG is a mess right now on XBox.

It'll likely get sorted out. It just came out on XBox a couple of weeks ago and the game is still in development. If you have a good PC though why not just buy an XBox One controller to play sports games?

This is what's going through my mind ! The warranty is better than no warranty. The one i was gonna pick up is $229 cdn, no game. I can get one for $249 with a game, not sure what used games sell for.

Honestly, an old Xbox isn't worth $160. That's the price a Xbox One S should be if you're looking used.

That's a pretty good deal. Sell the games and you're getting a brand new Xbox One S for $200, maybe less depending on what you manage to get for them. The Xbox One S also has a better controller IIRC.

Plus, look at the size difference...in addition to the fact the power supply is internal, not external.

Usually you get them on a piece of cardboard with a scratch off code. They're still easy to sell.

Think about it. It's $80 for a brand new, full warranty console with a better controller. Or you save a little money for a used one, with a used controller that has wear. These controllers don't last forever. If the other person used it regularly, you'll have to buy a replacement soon (my friend who plays daily goes through 4 controllers a year).

It adds up to +$36 of expenditure per year and then one day you throw the whole thing away. Not counting games that have to be bought and may go with the console as well.

But well if OP has an income and willing to spend, its his decision in the end.

Yes, it does. For hours upon hours of entertainment. Going to the movies costs what, $14? For 2 hours.

Your argument makes absolutely no sense. If we go with your logic, no entertainment or experience that you pay for would be worth it.

4 controllers in a year? Is the XBox One controller just a piece of shit or something? I still use the same XBox 360 wireless controller my system came with when I bought it in 2006, and I played the shit out of my 360 and use it to control most games on my PC and my Raspberry Pi. I was thinking of upgrading because the controller is old and looks like shit, but it still works great.

I would say he is an aggressive user, i play almost every day, a few hours each time and drop the controller onto hardwood floors at least once a day as well as using it when i watch Netflix and stuff and my controller is about 2 years old and still going fine. although the controller is starting to lose paint in some places

Depends on the Games you want to play.

If the games you want are on Xbox, it might be worth it.

But Xbox doesn't have much exclusives these days...

So depending on the games you like, PS4 might be a better option.

I Would beg to differ, Being one that bought the basic Xbox one, I have run and played PUBG on it pretty well. Usually playing 4-5 games a day if lucky or if just dying really fast. The 20fps range comes and goes though, it will do that no matter due to hardware and the need to render/ de-render things from the map, if your a player that looks over your shoulder a lot then yeah your gonna be getting those frames pretty frequent. but if you do play the game frequently it actually improves in frames due to it being stored in the cache for quick access. Again their is some things you can do to improve frames.

In response to the OP it completely your decision. if you want to go for the Xbox One or One S. If you are able to get what you want from the xbox one and not the s then what ev. if you go for the One S and do the resale as someone above suggested then that's fine. your choice bro.

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...
