Workstation pc cpu

Hi everyone,

One of my friends is a professional editor. He bought a new workstation pc. It has 2 titan x, 64gb ram and 8 core xeon. I was wondering why it got a xeon cpu. Is this better then an i9 or threadripper for editing?

Xeons are designed for that purpose and the prices are less rapey than the i9.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

it all depends on the usecase , if he has GPU acceleration than the brunt of the workload will end up on the gpu 
getting an 8c xeon (what model btw) and 2 titan X's is a silly config tho to be fair , unless its an older workstation that config does not make that much sense

Does this mean it's more stable and he will have less problems? I'm not sure which model it is.

cpu is cpu , xeons are just bigger i7's in the end , more cache and more cores and maybe some extra instructions , but thats about it 

 

server chips might be a little more stable under certain load , but i dunno , i had no issues running normal consumer cpus at 100% load for days sooo....

Mainly Xeons have certifications to work properly with the software you need to ensure no down times happens.

if we are talking maxwell titans , yea thats fine , you could not get a 12/16c so easely

but getting 2 titan xp's and then only getting the 8c xeon in a workstation? thats silly

All depends on the purposes of the machine, there are plenty of workloads that are GPU depended to the maximum and the TITAN Xp is still better value when facing a lot of Quadro solutions... it only is idiotic as a gaming/mainstream use card ^^

oh yea , if you are relying on the gpu to do the work then it makes sense , but if the cpu is getting hammered too then you shud not cheap out there either

The problem there is that it's only days. These CPUs could be under a high load for weeks, months, or even years at a time.
