Just did the Windows feature's update... Not sure if Chrome RAM usage was affected by this...

I didn't really pay attention to Chrome's RAM usage before, but I just checked now, after the update and just having 4 tabs open... i'm using more than 1gb of ram?!?! Has this always been like this?

Chrome caches pages, including closed or previously visited ones, in ram.

Which is why it's faster than other browsers.

chrome is a RAM hog

 

if you don't like it, try the new firefox. it's a nice change (though chrome is probably still better as an overall package, but firefox quantum is good on RAM usage, CPU usage, etc.)

I advise that you try out the latest stable version of Firefox or Vivaldi. (use 64-bit version of each if your PC supports it)

 

Google Chrome seems to be going through growing pains at the moment and I've noticed video crashing bugs, webgl issues and unresponsiveness in the latest stable version of Chrome

Opera is much better than Chrome. People ignore it but it's by far the best browser out there for PC.

when i used chrome i could get it to consume 1 gigabyte with just 3 tabs open.. i'm glad i switched to firefox
