Looking for Cassette tape info

TheGleaner

So this will seem backwards from my last post but: I bought a 1980s vehicle with a cassette player(and I want to go back). Who makes cassettes and who is/was(and what type) considered the "best".

Should I look on eBay for said "best" types/brands?

Before I just bought whatever and ran them until they died.

I know it probably won't be a large audience here but, maybe some will remember better than I do. And I'm sure a lot will see this and go " what's a cassette?"

I'm not at home but I have a couple of cassettes in my room somewhere. I'll find the brands and tell you what I have... But I don't think these ones are manufactured anymore... Or if cassettes are made anymore for that matter..

Well I just thought, since it was an option on Amazon, they may still make them.

Best cassette tapes are either Maxell or TDK.  I still use them and have a ton of them in my music library.  Ebay has a lot of them.

I remember some of my first computer games and software for my TRS80 Model 1 Level 2 was on cassette.  Had to make sure the heads in the player were clean so the software would load without any major problems.  Gees, that has been a long time ago cuz I sold that machine just before I went to Vietnam with the Air Force.  Used to get the blank cassettes and the software from a place called Radio Shack.

While brand matters, I'd argue that tape type and noise reduction types matter a whole lot more.

Are you looking into ferric/type I tape, chrome/type II tape, etc.? Are you using a form of noise reduction (likely Dolby B NR)? What music are you listening to? On and on.

I'm looking for well the best, for my recently found/drug out stereo setup and whatever would work/sound the best in a 80s/90s Chrysler radio/cassette player in my Dodge. I'll try to find out or just put a picture of what Dolby system it has.

Yeah, brands like Maxwell, TDK, Sony, BASF(?), etc. should suffice for either ferric or chrome.

Don't know if anyone would remember, but the book was pretty useless about the radio.

If Dolby System implies noise reduction, it’s type B.

In other news: I found a nib metal cassette

National Audio Company either makes cassettes or has a massive stockpile.
