>$1800 CAD Purely Gaming Rig

Friend wants to build a purely gaming rig. Budget is about $2000 but wants to leave some room for a monitor.

-Intel build ( just gaming, no streaming or productive things so don't need the cores)

-doesn't want to overclock (I feel thats kinda short sighted but maybe I'm wrong)

-nvidea gpu

-rgb is appreciated

-no mass storage just SSD (500+ preferred)

-likes simple cases (I recommend something with air filters)

-wants quiet build

-gaming at 1080 maybe 1440 down the road depending on monitor

-peripherals will be budgeted separately

-> my list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/wWGL3F

I have an affinity to the H440.

Not really sure about motherboards but Wifi and USB 3.0 front header would be nice. I'm having trouble finding out if boards have these or not.

Take a look. Give me your opinions!

don't get a 7600k with a B250 board as you won't be able to overclock. in fact, don't get a 7600k at all. get a 1600 or wait for coffee lake. does he want monitor included or does he have a seperate budget for that?

Also, remember that Ryzen boards are more expensive, and you need to buy more expensive RAM

have you even looked at prices of mobos dude, you can get a b350 board for less than 100 and you cant even find a z-170 under 120

the Z270 board is nearly $40 more and there was never a requirement to get fast ram for ryzen. and you also have to factor in cooler costs for the 7600k.

That's because they aren't aware that amd gives you better performance for cheaper.

This doesn't make any sense. I mean, you've got an R5 1600. If you're not just going to get the R7 1700 for more cores, why build a computer in the first place?

OP - Intel is stupid right now, especially if you're not overclocking. An unlocked Coffee Lake i5 or i7 could be a good option, but Ryzen 5 1600 is your best option for now.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor  ($259.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Motherboard: ASRock - X370 Killer SLI ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($178.25 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($179.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($216.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card  ($664.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case  ($101.19 @ DirectCanada)

Monitor: LG - 27UD58-B 27.0" 3840x2160 60Hz Monitor  ($419.99 @ Memory Express)
Total: $2119.38

Grab a 525GB MX300 instead of the 850 EVO if you want to save some money. You could also save $30 on motherboard and PSU if you sacrifice SLI support.

I get that, but still, his point is valid, he's only gaming so he doesn't really need the cores Ryzen offers. Ryzen is still the wiser option, but he wasn't really wrong.
