i am going to upgrade my pc. i already have a good graphics(rx480) card and a ssd but i think they are bottlenecking because of my cpu(first gen i5) and mobo(sata2). my main objective is gaming. 1080p with good fps is a must

I wouldnt get the i3 since the G4560 exists and its 90% of the performance for 75% 0f the cost.

That being said, Ryzen has more upgrade path currently, especially since you can use the same motherboard to OC, whereas a Z chip motherboard would be more expensive and "wouldnt make sense" with a pentium/i3 processor.

FPS for FPS, they're the same

Ryzen 3! More cores, overclockable, and better future upgrade path.

Make SURE you get a B350 motherboard from Asus, ASRock, or Gigabyte, and the fastest RAM you can get. Most MSI AM4 boards have issues.

not sure about your color scheme, location, or budget but here's a solid combo:

tbh he should at least get a ryzen 5 1400 and overclock that shit, the only reason with 1500x, 1600x perform better than a 1400 is not the extra Core and thread count, but the higher clock speed

Definitely not i3. Either Pentium G4560 or Ryzen 3. Don't get an R3 1300X, just get an R3 1200.

The main difference between the 1200 and 1300x is base and boost clock speed, which doesnt matter if you're overclocking, because they will both hit the same max OC (though 1300x might be "binned" so they could hit a 100mhz higher clock, at least thats supposedly the case on the R7 1800x)

Additionally, the X variants of the Ryzen CPU's do not come with stock coolers (which I believe still holds true with the R3 series but I could be wrong)

It's the exact same CPU as the 1200, just overclock a 1200 to 1300x speeds and you have a 1300x.

Only the 1600x, 1700x and 1800x don't include coolers AFAIK. I think the 1300x and 1500x come with coolers, but I think they come with Wraith Stealth. R5 1600 and R7 1700 come with Wraith Spire.

Good to know. It wouldnt make sense to have to buy an aftermarket cooler for such a low TDP chip anyways, especially since the stock ones are actually pretty good

It's the exact same CPU as the 1200, just overclock a 1200 to 1300x speeds and you have a 1300x.

Not entirely true.  It's possible, if unlikely, that a 1200 can't be overclocked to 1300x speeds.

For $600 thats a real steal! Especially considering AMD cards are selling like crazy right now, even the 300 series is selling hot ($300+) on craigslist and ebay from what I'm told, that board is a very high end motherboard ($200 range new), the ram is very good (125) The PSU and case aren't things to write home about but overall you got yourself a hell of a computer there!
