Looking for a piece of equipment for cycling to measure Distance

Can anyone help me with this? :v I saw on a video of some cyclists having this bit on their handlebars that measure speed and distance and all that. Can anyone recommend anything? Bit of a budget. I think this is an alright place to post this.

Something like that. Just make sure it has something that goes on the wheel to measure the distance. Have you considered seeing if there's an app for your phone? GPS is usually pretty accurate as well.

Strava is not going to be as accurate as the physical solutions others have recommended because it relies on the GPS of your phone (doesn't require Data for that). But the difference isn't much and for basic recording of average speed, distance, and logging your routes, it works. I've logged over 800km of just recreational biking with Strava.

What if used in tandem with physical?

strong magnet on wheel

sensor (hall effect) fixed on bike

every time magnet goes near the sensor you know a full rotation happened

you know distance per rotation, time between pulses tells you the speed.

You can pair Strava with certain physical bike computers like some Garmin ones. The functionality it adds certainly isn't game changing for casual bikers except for maybe Beacon. Beacon basically allows close ones to know exactly where you are in real time. So if something goes wrong, they know where to find you.

That's how the speedometers on bikes work. There's a little sensor you put in the front fork, and you attach a magnet to the wheel, so it passes in front of the sensor. Every time the sensor "sees" the magnet, it knows the wheel has done 1 revolution. With Arduino, you could make it insanely accurate, because you could account for the exact dimensions of your car/wheel.

I like a cycle computer on the handle bars, cant do that with your cell.
