Is the One Plus 5 a smart buy?

I currently have an iPhone 5c and I am looking to upgrade, my price range is around $500. The software is dated and the battery is failing--I am clamoring for a new upgrade. I am heavily interested in the One Plus 5 but after reading the most recent AMA by them, online users do not seem to particularly appreciate One Plus's marketing schemes. Is the One Plus 5 not worth the investment? I would love any worthwhile android purchasing advice from this forum. Thanks!

If you don't care about their rigging of Phone Benchmarks, then grab one if you want. Android is fine and most devices work well, if you think you like the One Plus 5 then go for it.

the OP5 is a solid phone, but the LG G6 has come down in price

you can pick a new one up on eBay for around 500 shipped

Just got OnePlus 5 in today and it's one beast of a phone. Camera is very good and its the fastest phone I've ever used. No one cares about benchmarks on phones anymore so I don't care if its processor runs faster while running the test. What matters is real world performance. Cant beat a snapdragon 835, 8gb ram, 128gb storage for around $550. I will be selling my Galaxy S8, still has noticeable lag and hiccups.

it really depends on what you value in a phone

the G6 screen is superior, with much smaller bezels and a higher resolution

imo, the fingerprint reader is in a more intelligent place on the G6 as well

You'll probably get better CS with LG than with OnePlus, as they're not exactly known for the best customer support.

 

However:

The OP5 has better internal specs

dash charge (which is super fast from the reviews I've seen)

metal, not glass back. 

 

The cameras are comparable, with the G6 edging out the OP5 in most tests. The OP5 does have a nice 'portrait' mode which creates some pretty convincing artificial DOF.

 

it's really down to what you value more

Down to you.

Do you want bigger specs, Stock android smooth Experience, Amoled panel, Meh Camera but enough to get the job done?

Or IP68 Resistance, HDR IPS LCD Panel, Wide angle camera, MicroSD support?

 

Thats pretty much the determining factors for those 2 devices.

LG G6 has a fancy new design, water and dust resistant but has a older CPU so I say if CPU overall then 1+5!

I don't think that buying an LG phone is viable at the moment with how many issues people have gotten with the past few phones the company's been churning out, specifically with bootloops. It could only be affecting a small minority of users though.

Bootloops should be fixed with G6. Was issue with thermals and G6 has heatpipes installed to solve this.

I have the One Plus 3t and I have to say they have great build quality. Oxygen OS is pretty nice, and pretty stock from what I seen. Personally Id buy the One Plus 5 myself If I didnt have the One Plus 3t.
