Hi, having a discussion at work today, and it seems that some people like to name their PCs, and other people didn't see the point.

Myself and my partner named ours (mines Rubik). What's the general consensus here?

If so, what've you opted to call yours?

I do, but simply due to the fact that there are a number of devices on my network, and its easier to find each one when they are properly named

I don't have a specific name for my PC. But to find it on the network, that's pretty easy since it's just my name with PC behind it

Windows 10 | GTX 970 | AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960x | 128GB Ripjaws V

I came up with a name because I did a build log for it, so felt like I needed one. Other than that, I tend not to name computers/cars and such.

There's a sort of sad story behind it.

My parents are divorced so that's why it might look so much.

BlueLine moves with me because it's for school but the rest of them stay where they are.

bruh i have dual backups, first there is my main, then the LAN PC, then the toaster(if i can scavange a GPU from one of the previous builds) and then my laptop and after that shit gets REALLY desperate and i have my Linux miner(that crashes as soon as it starts mining incidently) with an I3 2120 and a 8800GT(just for testing out mining, nothing more) and i also have parts to assemble an AM3 system that could be decent and if ALL OF THAT somehow is dead, i have my first ever PC sitting beside me with a P4 and a Geforce 6600....

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

my main computer will always be called "main computer", then i have my project PCs, the LAN PC and the Toaster Project but thats it, i dont give them specific names usiually, i call them by what they are used for. main computer is called that because its the system i spend 6+h of every day infront of, the Linux miner is just that, even though the pice of garbage refuses to work, and the LAN PC name is because thats exactly what it is, its a PC i take to LAN parties so my main system dosent break my back/gets stolen/gets looted.(the case is lots of kilos, GPU is more then 4kg, NH-D14 isnt light either and so on. its heavy AF) and my NAS is just the NAS, barely gets used at all so i havent even botherd getting a proper HDD for it so it just has a laptop drive thats kind of haning from the SATA connections lol

This too. Old but mostly beautiful internals in a HP workstation case, constantly staring at a drawer full of 1990s PCI cards and PSUs. Oh, and I bet it's drooling for the 4870 sitting on my desk waiting for a 6pin adapter.
