I need a laptop recommendation

Hey all,

I'm looking for a laptop I originally was planning to get the new razer blade (since Linus loved it and it looks really nice) but after hearing about QC issues and their lack of 4k option I'm reconsidering. I need something portable (I'm in college and family is military so I move around a lot) with good battery life and capable of gaming (I mainly play overwatch, skyrim, halo). My budget is $2800 (this is my total budget and I need a 2 year warranty). My current laptop has died after 4 years and I need something to get me through my at least my last 2 years of college

I liked the msi stealth but battery life is trash, I don't like Alienware they're hideous and overheat, and I hate apple. I saw the aero 14 but I'm hesitant as I've heard mixed reviews.

I mean I am incredibly biased but you could get one of these:

https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MPTR2LL/A&step=config#

  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage
  • Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB memory
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Backlit Keyboard - US English
  • $2,699

And install Windows through Bootcamp and get all your gaming needs taken care of while having MacOS to get that stability and battery factor of MacOS which is critical to someone on the move a lot. Not to mention it is a Mac so it will last for a long time.

Then again, remember I am incredibly biased. There are wayyyy better speced Windows laptops out there for way less. This is just what I would do.

well 965m 2800$ "pro" computer that has thermal issues is not exactly a dream machine.

aero 14 the 1070 version it has decent battery life or Aorus X3, a gtx 1060 should also be good.

Oh my mother of God.

What do you not understand? A Macbook is not for gaming.  How hard is that to understand?  She clearly wants a gaming laptop.  Gaming laptops usually have good cooling, a GPU powerful enough for playing the latest titles, and gaming oriented features.  It has been shown that Macbooks do not have the best cooling, a GPU made for gaming, or any gaming oriented features.  There is a reason they are not advertised to play games on.

It's getting a bit old.

The new Alienware machines aren't too ugly, and with the 1080p 60hz panel, they get around 8 hours on battery with the 99Whr battery.  Also, the cooling is great.  With my undervolt, my 6700HQ stays very cool while being stress tested, around 60C if I am correct.

If not, get the Aero 15.  I've used it and I love it.

Radeon Pro 455  Radeon Pro 560, not saying that a 560 can beat a 965M but they are not the same GPU. A more accurate comparison is needed.

Well, to be capable of gaming, you have to be able to cool the internals while they're under load, something that Macbook cannot do.

You would be surprised. New models just came out so the old 2016 thermal numbers are invalid and must be tested again.

You most likely cannot find one because no one is foolish enough to benchmark a lot of games on a Macbook.

You're right, I would be surprised.

It's the same chassis and very similar processors.  There isn't some very large thermal difference between Skylake and Kaby Lake.

But there is a difference. Also test methodology is something I don't really agree with when testing thermals on MacBooks since they are designed to perform well under real load, not a synthetic 100% CPU benchmark for hours on end to see how much we can get it to throttle.
