Why do all new laptops have small arrow keys?

I have noticed that all laptop manufacturer's are changing their keyboard layout to make the arrow keys smaller. I want to know why are they doing this? Is there some science behind this?
I find it ugly and there are gaps above the left and right arrow keys, and it is irritating that every laptop manufacturer is adopting this. What is the benefit of it?
(I tried searching online but couldn't find any reason. I am in the market for a new laptop but not buying any because of the small arrow keys)

Not all. I know a lot that still don't but I think it's because people don't use them a lot

Just keeping this here as a Probably cause its just arrow keys, it doesnt effect a persons typing, saves space and dont think people use them alot

For some reason they don't just make the right shift shorter to accommodate an extra arrow key like mechanical keyboards have been doing forever.

Thankfully, these keys tend to be rarely used, even in gaming. Now, is WASD became half-height, we'd see the torches and pitchforks come out.

Yes! I noticed! I rarely use the right shift key. And I frequently use the arrow keys while editing documents and scrolling through menus and websites. Yet they decided to sacrifice the arrow key size to make the right shift key bigger!

The arrows keys are almost the most frequently used keys on the keyboard (actually — the second place, right after the the Ctrl/Shift/Alt keys).

 

Copying/pasting preceding words of a program or text occurs very often — therefore Shift/Ctrl/Arrows/Home/End are very needed (to select words) and Ctrl/C/V (or Ctrl/Shift/Ins/Del) are very needed (to actually copy/paste). It can be observed even visually — on an old keyboard, Ctrl/Shift/Alt and arrow keys are the most visually faded / physically damaged.
