Should I invest in an aftermarket cooler?

Vishvas Sudarshan

So I have an i5-6500 with the stock cooler. Idle temps are around 45°C and while under load it hits 75°C - 80°C.

I'm a bit worried as on Intel's website it says : "Maximum temperature allowed at the processor Integrated Heat Spreader : 71°C "

Should I buy an aftermarket cooler? Like the Hyper 212EVO? (If yes, will this fit on my socket?)

Thanks!

If you exceed the recommended limit - Yes. Get an aftermarket cooler.

The Hyper 212 Evo is a great budget choice and is definetly enough.

Well if you want cooler temps, yes sure. I have a 212 evo on 6500 and under very heavy (video rendering) it stays in the 50s on the hottest core.

Right now it 48C while FAH on full.

Okay! Is the Thermal compound that comes with the cooler good, or should I buy that separately?

Where do you live? I guess that ambient temp in your place is high.
In this case, get an aftermarket cooler. However, the 212 EVO is mediocre, yes it's fine for a locked i5 but I suggest you to get a better one from Noctua and Be quiet!

Thanks guys! xD

And just wondering, I have only 2 case fans, is that contributing to high temps?

My Open air cooled GPU runs at 75+°C. under load

If it's 1 intake and 1 exhaust, you're fine

What's the GPU you're using?

I used to have a r9 380. I still got the same temps but the side panel was of because the gpu would over heat.

Don't get the 212 evo, the Cryorig H7 is close in price, cools a little better and is smaller.

Thanks ! :)

But I can't seem to find it on amazon, and I doubt it will be in local stores either.

Besides most PC stuff is overpriced here due to import tax etc.....
