Thinking About Selling

I figured I might as well get some input on what everyone thinks would be a decent price. Link => https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WfBBd6

That's about what I was thinking. Would hope to get at least $1000 for it.

Yeah I've thought about that but also wouldn't want stuff damaged in shipping since I no longer have the boxes to break it down in to.

He did say "1200 if that" hence the if that part. Personally I would like to get 1000, since it's not really old. The only thing newer that you would replace gaming worse would be the gpu. Cpu is overkill for gaming. So it's only outdated by 1 generation so far. And can still really run anything.

I would look at Craigslist as an option. Put it out there for $1200 and hopefully land a seller. Just be sure to negotiate reasonably. One thing, list it as $1200 and negotiate only if the seller won't agree to $1200. With that said, make sure you state cash or cashiers check only, do not take any other form of payment.

Only reason I don't like that is for the amount of money being transferred from someone on craigslist. Craigslist is already sketchy as it is, but that'll for sure be my last resort.

Yeah I get that. Anyway good luck selling it, here's the thing. Do you need the cash? If not, just keep it. A cousin or relative that wants a PC for gaming, perhaps be the cool relative and give it to him/her. Plus, you know you can do more than just play games on a PC...

I don't necessarily need the money, just don't use it anymore except for watching YouTube and Netflix every now and then. I do have a friend wanting to build one soon, was gonna see if he might want it before I go list it anywhere.

Ridiculous? No. I'll tell you something, you can put however much money into a PC but you know what? You won't get nearly as much. Just like cars. I'm getting a body kit, new rims, speakers, subs but I wouldn't get as much for it as I paid for everything. RC cars, I can put over $1000 in it and people would only buy it for $400 max. You can try to sell it for $1000 but you might not get many bites.

I've already got a buyer for 1k of just the tower. Yes over half the value lost after 1 gen comes out is ridiculous. You can't build a pc for that price that be better than mine in every way. And people buying that low is called lowballing, maybe know the value of something before you sell it. Guy recently offered my 1.2k for my car, told to screw off cause I know my car is worth more. I bought a bike for 2300, that I guarantee you I could sell for 3k our more right now if i wanted to.

In fairness, your system is only worth about $1000 (and it shouldn't be an easy $1000 either). The fact that people are willing to pay is just because they're ill informed and/or don't know better -- i.e. they see it originally cost over $1600 and think "wow this is a great deal".

Yes, I'm lowballing you because I give a shit what you sell it for.

For $1250 I can build something that is better in every single way, that has full warranties, and that is brand new. And even if you think anyone gives a shit about the sound card and fan controller, then it's still only $1300~. Why in gods name would I pay $1200 to get old, used, warranty-less hardware when I can get something superior for $1300?

That "cheapass crappy" AMD card still outperforms your 980. And even if I change it to a 6gb 1060 or an 8gb 480 it will still only be $1300~ and be a FAR better choice than your system with a reference 980.

"cheap halfway reliable parts" such as?

The CPU is better, the cooler is the same, the motheboard is the same, the ram is the same, the ssd/hdd are both very reliable, the gpu is better, the case is the same, the psu is better, the optical drive is the same.

Yes amd is crap and that card only sometimes beats the 980, depends on the game. And no the 1060 does not out perform the 980, gotta spend another ~250 to do that. But please go on, I'm loving how you think my 980 is shit when you run a 780

Good thing an aftermarket 1060 is still a better choice than a reference 980. (AMD still isn't crap, but okay).

Both the 480 and the 1060 outperform the 980 (just every so slightly), especially a reference card with limited overclock potential, but feel free to keep dreaming.

And me having a 780 changes how a 980 performs.....how? When all else fails, start with the personal attacks. I also never said your 980 was shit, just that a 580 and a 1060 are both better options.

ok, before this gets out-of-hand, lets keep this objective and not personal.

you asked for a value, take those with into account that region, availability and access are not config'd into those guessedimates.

Yes, you're saying amd is great and the 580 is so much better. Why don't you have one? Cause nvidia is better. Also why haven't you upgrade if so many better options are available? Cause it's unnecessary. Even 760s are still viable cards. So therefore, saying my ENTIRE computer is only worth what I paid for my 980 is fucking retarded. Every single part I have is viable for years, and still runs every game I've played on it at high with some medium settings at a solid 60fps in 4k. Since most people run 1080/1440 that extends the viability a bit. So you're still wrong :)

No, I don't have one because even my 780 is more than enough for my needs, so no reason to upgrade. And I would've bought a 290 over my 780 had it not been for miners driving the price of the 290 way up. And are you seriously comparing a 2013 Nvidia/AMD to a 2017 Nvidia/AMD....it's been four years, a lot changes in four years -- drivers are now about on par and we've seen two full generations since then.

If you paid $1000 for your 980 then you're a moron. The 980 is a great card and your system is still great, but explain to me why I should pay $1200 for a used system that is beaten (ever so slightly) in every way and that has no warranty when I can get a brand new system, with full warranties, that is superior, for $1300?
