Why are Asrock motherboards considered junk?

I am looking for a new motherboard for my system, since my $400 Asus board went up in smoke and Asus will not stand behind their expensive POS. So my question is: I like what I see with the Asrock boards because of the price, features and looks. Carey Holzman on his Cosmos 2 build video said to not cheap out on the motherboard and go with Asrock. I respect him and his opinion, but what is wrong with Asrock? Are their higher end motherboards junk? Jay had good luck with his Asrock Z77 OC Formula and likes the X99 Fatality board that he reviewed, so is Asrock a good brand or not? Thanks, I am confused.

You don't really shop for brand, but for models, I honestly only get Asus for motherboards because I only have great experience with those, I don't think that AsRock is necessarily bad; they are just known to target more the cheaper consumer than the enthusiastic, nothing wrong with it.

Who ever said ASrock was junk? 

 

All motherboard vendors are good so it really doesn't matter which manufacture you go for, at the end of the day it's the same chipset.

I've had good luck with them. Still have a Z87 board that's been running for 4 years, but that's only my experience. My cousin once built a computer with their boards, it died about 2 years later, out of warranty, but they send him a new one for 40 dollars (Which surprised me because he is in Canada).

Nothing is wrong with Asrock. They used to manufacture mainly budget boards in the past, which was why people gave them flack about the build quality. Their current boards are very solid and on par quality-wise with "larger" brands like Asus.

I've only used gigabyte boards but I'm planning on switching over to an Asrock AM4 mobo as they have been the best manufacturer for RYZEN

i used to have 2 lga 775 motherboards

 

one has exploded on me, that one is asus.

the other one is a asrock and it hasn't exploded yet

There not the most popular of motherboards. If anything there amongst the most feature packed with there steel PCI-E slots, & so forth. They really did though go through a faze of just targeting the lower budget consumer for awhile, which as said by @Pandalf didn't really earn them a great reputation the enthusiast/high end grade community

ASRock is NOT a junk, for sure. In the old days they used to try some experimental functions like CPU add-on slot or Sandy Bridge chipset for Lynnfield processor, but that's way different from being called 'junk'.

All brands are about the same. Imo, buying electronics is just like gambling, sometimes you got a long lasting mobo, sometimes you got a dead mobo after a day. For instance, overclockable mobos like Z170/270 series can die more often than the cheapest H110 mobo even both of then using locked CPUs.

As long as the mobo has 100% solid capacitors, I would say it's good.

ASRock is not a shit brand, infact I think it's among the best with the x370 chipset (got a x370 taichi myself)

He probably meant to not cheap out on your parts. Asrock didn't really have a really "good" rep back then but their boards are top notch now. If you ask him again he might give a different reply.

Honestly, the only brand I won't ever buy again is Gigabyte.  I'm sure plenty of people have had good experiences with them, and I don't mean to crap on your purchase.  However, the one time I got a motherboard from them they stopped releasing driver and utility updates (and they needed them) after about a year.  I'm still receiving updates on my Z97 MSI board.

I don't know if it's irony, but like 2 hours ago my brothers PC suddenly shut off, he has an Asrock board and it won't turn on anymore.

asrock is garbage I made the mistake of getting on the front panel io doesnt work anymore the 2nd ram slot is broken and their rma's are ridiculously complicated
