Actually, it was up to the IBM dealer or reseller to add the additional options and set up the system for the end user at the time that system was manufactured.

 

 

LGR also got one of those and he mentions that (it was actually on the ebay listing).

Yeah, thats what I meant, they don't come with video adapters by default.

Such a cool post, thanks OP. I love neatly laid out projects like these and the retrospectives and such they prompt. I only caught the tail-end of this stuff when I was a kid, but to me it's like shorter span archaeology almost (This is not me trying to call anyone old, I swear ). Kudos!
