SSD compatibility

While trying to pick out an SSD to buy I realized that I am not actually fully certain if what I am intending to go for is compatible with my motherboard without using some kind of extension card. I thought it was, but I am no longer certain. The SSD I was hoping to get was the http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960evo.html and my motherboard is https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B250M-MORTAR.html#productFeature-section Could someone give me a certain answer about if I can install the SSD onto the motherboard without needing some third component?

How about not wasting money and buying a regular sata SSD like the 850 evo?

I'd also be against buying a 960 Pro and instead get an 850 Evo. NVME speeds aren't practical for most people and you get more space to put your things in by going with the EVO.

Hmm, so say for gaming purposes, there would be a negligible performance difference between a sata SSD and a m.2 SSD?

m.2 is a form factor. I'd get a SATA m.2 drive as it saves on a lot of cabling.

 

But yes, to answer your question you do need to purchase an additional component to use an NVMe drive with that motherboard.

Yes. For one, storage drive performance doesn't really affect games while they are running. For another, loading times are cut at best by 1 or 2 seconds.
