Would a Noctua NH-D15 stress a mini ITX board too much?

No, it wouldn't.

Currently planning a 2nd build. First one I went full tower full water cooling loop, this time I thought i'd do the opposite. ITX all air cooling. This is my planned build:

  • i7 7700K
  • Asus Z270I
  • Noctua NH-D15
  • Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX

My question is, with such a massive air cooler on such a little board, would it be too much stress on the board, or would it be just fine?

If you think about it, the mITX board is likely stronger. It's smaller so there's less chance of flex.

My main concern would be it overhanging the PCI-E slot, preventing you installing a graphics card. You would need to measure very carefully to check it's compatible with your build.

That and the fact that many ITX cases have restrictions on coolers heigth. Or overall size. We are talking about huge air cooler, after all.
