AMD Ryzen release - German techsite hints 28. February

The german techsite heise.de hits a potential releasedate for Ryzen.

Source: https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Kerniges-zum-Karneval-AMD-Ryzen-kommt-wohl-am-28-Februar-3597324.html

Quote

Eng: AMD apparently plans to present Ryzen within the next six weeks. Some sources hint the 28. of February. There will be a presentation about the new CPU during the Game Developers Conference.

Quote

Eng: Heise Online (Heise.de) received the information from "well informed" sources. Of course we all know, what that means ... They say " ... Selected editorial offices will receive a eight core cpu for testing in February."

Now to keep it real: As long as AMD doesn't confirm a release date, it's just speculation. However, if AMD keeps to the plan of releasing Ryzen in Q1, this would be a good time. Now, there are no information weather this is just the paper-launch or the actual launch. Also wasn't there a contest where you could win a Ryzen CPU that ends early February?

If you find any grammar or spelling errors please fill out entry permit A38, thanks.

Greetings from germany

I'm sure they are still negotiating with intel and Samsung on a conspiracy to screw us out of more money while only providing 5% performance #illuminati

Damn my guess was off by 14 days.

I guess AMD's demands for NDA on board partners are looser than Intel's, as usually with Intel you can set your watch to 1.5 months after the first finalized motherboard being leaked to the CPU release dates.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Pretty excited for this. As a consumer, I'd love me some competition.

Hopefully they undercut intel by a good margin.  My 3770k/board died and I'm currently running an athlon 64x2 4000+ with 2gb of ram.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

That's plenty tho...I mean it's a 64 bit dual core CPU where it must mean it's as fast as a Skylake Pentium :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Plus,  it has 256k l1 cache and 1mb l2 cache.  That's as much as the quad core 6700k and 7700k. xD

No l3 though

L3 cache is soooooo overrated...why bother with L3 cache when you can have L4 cache and boost your iGPU performance to much much faster speeds? :P

I got my 290x's on there,  but have the blistering fast nforce 4 chipset with geforce 6100 graphics xD

Hey that's the same CPU I had in my own first desktop PC, at least from Feb 2008 to early 2012 sometime. :)  And, I started with 2GB RAM, then upgraded to 4GB a little over a year later.  My board (Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H) died, though, so I quit using the PC.  I still have the RAM (G.Skill DDR2-800), PSU (500-watt OCZ StealthXStream) and hard drives (mostly WD, although the 80GB has the click of death now), but scrapped the rest a couple years ago or so.

Are you by chance running Windows 7, or 10, or something similar on it?  I'm curious what scores it gets on Cinebench R15. :)  If you had the same board, or at least the same iGPU (ATI X1250), I'd also want to know how it does in FireStrike, or in games like CS:GO, Overwatch, Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA V, Witcher 3, etc. :D  (For example how much of an upgrade is my 4790K + 1060 3GB :P)

Well it's not technically running ( waiting for a pcie riser in the mail,  damn oem boards and their poor sata port placement).  Im probably going to run ubuntu on the thing,  but i might run win 10. I'll let you know what performance i get if you want.

I'd be interested in knowing, if you get around to it. :)  It's been a while since I ran benchmarks on my system, but iirc Cinebench was around 750-850 multi-thread and 160-180 single-thread.  Tomb Raider I think was around 91fps, FireStrike around 10.5k, and I don't recall / haven't done the others recently.  (On the iGPU - HD 4600, TR was 5fps, FS around 700 or so.)

Speaking of SATA ... I ran out of SATA ports on my ASRock Z97 Extreme6 (AND SATA power plugs on my Corsair AX760) a week or two ago when I had a bunch of my old HDDs plugged in, to see what was on them. :o  Right now I have some of them plugged in, and am pulling stuff off of them onto a new 5TB HGST Deskstar NAS drive, anticipating getting rid of some or all of the old drives.

Also I learned that the 1x PCI-E slots right next to my GPU probably aren't the best place for my PCI-E to IDE/SATA card. :) The slot above the GPU, the IDE cable either won't fit or would be hard to get in, and the slot below the GPU, the fan looks like it could get starved for air.  (Although, last I checked, the fan wasn't running, but then I don't have anything stressful running, just file copy & things like that in Ubuntu Studio.  I prefer using that instead of Windows when I'm doing this kind of file copy, partition manipulation, etc.)

Btw, something interesting was going on the other week ... in Ubuntu, some of my NTFS partitions even on my newer drives were unmountable, but some were fine.  But, in Windows, they seem to be all good for now.

I'm almost tempted / wanting to try to get Windows 10 running temporarily on my dad's Dell D830 laptop (with a Core 2 Duo T7250, Intel GMA 3100 or whatever, 2GB RAM, 500GB WD Black, XP currently, etc) and try to run some of the above mentioned benchmarks. :)

I still wish we had our old 286, EGA GPU, 40MB HDD, 5.25" floppy, etc ... but then FireStrike, GTA, RotTR, etc, I'm sure wouldn't run on that. :P
